Winter Headcanons: Ice Skating Part 1
Was inspired by a fic I read written by @littlechaoticwitch the other day to randomly make some ice skating-related headcanons for both my original works I'm currently working on(Spooksverse, and my novel, The Lost Rainbow), so here's some that came to mind for the main Spooksverse characters!
Even if more minor this is something really fun to think about especially with the winter season coming up, so expect a few more parts after this one with the other characters! But anyway, onto these headcanons~:
. Aside from her beauty pageants and dance lessons growing up, another childhood activity of Suzie's was figure skating.
. She used to do it a lot as a kid, even entering competitions from time to time.
. Once she hit middle school though, she took a break from the sport to focus more solely on dance and show choir, and eventually also cheerleading once she hit high school.
. She'll still go ice skating with her family and friends whenever they plan to, though.
. And while still not getting back into the sport fully, sometimes she'll come up with little figure skating routines to entertain her friends with.
. Shadow's a pretty good ice skater in her own right too, having joined Suzie at the rink several times as a child so she's quite used to the activity by now.
. Sometimes during the winter season she'll plan little ice skating dates between her and Suzie, complete with candy canes and hot chocolate afterwards.
. She doesn’t know if she would ever take up the sport herself, but part of Shadow is intrigued at figure skating. She’s always enjoyed seeing Suzie perform when they were younger and it's even the only sport she’ll watch on TV, plus she wouldn’t mind trying some of the more gothic/edgy costumes some skaters tend to wear too.
. She likes to simply skate slow, to enjoy the moment whether beside herself or skating with Suzie in a couples skate.
. Despite his usual lanky/gangliness you would expect with his appearance, Kyle is surprisingly pretty good at ice skating.
. He’s always gone roller skating/blading growing up, fitting to his more retro interests, so when he tried ice skating for the first time he was pretty good at it.
. Sure his first time on the ice he did have some troubles and fell quite a bit, but he eventually got the hang of it.
. He doesn’t go super often unless his friends like Shadow and Suzie invite him, but he relatively enjoys the activity.
. Surprisingly, out of the friend group Liam is by far the worst skater.
. He’s never been super athletic growing up, save for starting some weight-lifting in middle school to build up some muscle, so he’s much too inexperienced compared to his friends. His family, save for his older sister for a short period of time, aren’t the athletic type either as they mostly spent their time indoors, never really going out to do any sort of athletic activity for their bonding time.
. His real first time trying ice skating is during the winter break of his senior year, in which his friends had all decided to go, with him going too since he really didn’t want to decline the opportunity of hanging out with them.
. He initially wanted to stay in the bleacher area and just watch his friends skate, but after some begging from Kyle he eventually decided to at least give one song a try to skate to. Suffice to say that the first time his skates hit the ice he almost fell and busted himself up, but luckily Kyle was there holding onto him and providing a firm anchor for him during the rest of his time learning to skate. It takes him quite a while, but with Kyle’s teaching and help eventually he gets used to it enough to at least try skating by himself, albeit very slowly and carefully to avoid potential injuries.
. Although he ultimately stuck more with football, Ryan also learned how to play hockey at a young age so he’s fairly good at regular ice skating.
. Sometimes during the colder months still when the local lake is frozen over completely he and a few of his other sports crowd buddies will start a game of ice hockey for the fun of it whenever they can.
. One time Isabella Garcia joined in on this, despite her ankles still being relatively weak after she sprained them, and to everyone especially Ryan she did a fairly good job at the game and even beat them one round.
. Outside of the occasional game of ice hockey though, Ryan doesn’t do much skating anymore.
. Caleb definitely loves the performing aspect of figure skating, with all the cool moves performed and costumes the skaters wear.
. Had he not already devoted his time to the theater, he might’ve picked it up as a sport for himself.
. He does however enjoy going to the rink for just some regular ice skating during the winter sometimes
. In terms of his actual ability, he’s mostly just decent at it.
. Jenny’s not the best at ice skating, but she tries her best.
. It’s not that she’s awkward with her legs, since she does play on her school’s varsity soccer team, it’s just that she’s never really gone skating much growing up.
. If she goes, it’s mostly just with her cousin Caleb if he invites her.
. Wouldn’t mind at least trying one skate with a girl she likes someday, since she does notice how other couples tend to have fun on the ice together.
. Eve’s never gone ice skating before, nor done much of regular roller-skating/blading aside from roller derby, so it’s uncertain how she’d be on the ice.
. Perhaps in the future once she and Jenny officially get together, she might be inclined to try it, if only to help fulfill Jenny’s little dream of doing one couple skate.
. Her first time on the ice she fell right away and wanted to quit after that, but kept going if just for Jenny.
. When she was younger she might have thought figure skating was cool especially with the costumes, but she’s never really given the sport much thought since those younger years.
