Everyone knows the D-pad needs a couple more call-outs to improve player communication in Splatoon, but what should be added?
Personally I believe the best call-outs to add would be "Danger!" and "Safe!"
"Danger!" is an obvious one. It's used to notify the team if something dangerous is happening. This is perfect for calling out flanks before engaging with it. A lot of people use "This way!" to call out flanks, but that's just confusing. You don't want the whole team to group up at your location, you just want them to be aware.
"Danger!" could also prevent bad super jumps. Respawning players can send jump notifications to their teammates and this would allow teammates to respond with whether or not it's okay to jump with either "Danger!" or "Safe!"......which leads me to my next point.
"Safe!" can be utilized in a lot of ways as well. I already mentioned the super jumps. You can also claim positions with "Safe!". Players will know they don't need to hang around someone who's already safe. Sharks can even use it to tells the team that they are safely behind the enemy team and might even be open to jump to. (Imagine the clam blitz plays with something like that).
These callouts don't even need to change when you've been splatted. The team can just be notified about the importance of their lost teammate. An "Ouch!" followed by a "Danger!" could be the difference between a teammate being wary of the flanker that splatted you.On the other hand, if the skirmish ended in a trade, you could say "Safe!" to let the team know that they're free to paint ovee the area with no worries.
I'm not even going into how useful this could also be for Salmon Run. It would give so much better context to "This way!" callouts or even help a teammate priorities who to save first.
