John is not used to Aaron speaking up for himself, or think he has manipulated him enough that he becomes docile and does what John wants on a whim, so when Aaron does speak up he questions the behaviour and tried to remind Aaron that he isn’t supposed to be defending himself, be defensive, ask question and should just go along with whatever John wants. It’s like ‘if I’m not telling you, then I’m not telling you, now you’re questioning me it’s odd - it must mean you are a different person who is forgetting their place, stop asking questions and accept what I do/tell you’
