Words Hurt
Seems these days it's bad to call someone a Screwball. I'm told that's very hurtful. Sorry for my poor judgment. I use Screwball and occasionally Moron to describe people. Some words just work for some members of the human race. I'm not better than anyone else. I've never rescued a kitten out of a tree. I haven't rushed into a burning building to save an old lady. (I would if I wasn't running late for something.) I admit computers are smart. An A.I. might beat me at chess. Good luck with taking me at Kick-Boxing. I'm not a swearing person. My folks did not use profanity so that was not an option for expression growing up. So the use of terms like Screwball and Moron fit easily for some folks. Words paint a picture. If you asked me about someone and I said: "Well he has some issues". That really tells you nothing. If I were to say "He's a ten on the Screwball scale". I think you'd have an idea what you'd be running into. I had my daughter lecture me with how "Words Hurt". I shot back with my best 3rd Grader answer. "Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me." That was the mantra of my generation honey. I think if our schools just worked with teaching kids how to read and write and how to be kind to one another that is what's really important. As I tell my kids, the world is full of screwballs, the secret is learning how to deal with them. Be kind, never kick a person who's down, Those are simple rules I teach my children. Along with never wear a ski mask in to do your banking. I would not partner up with someone who was Dyslexic to play Wheel of Fortune and a Pinky Swear is not as good as a signed contract. I know words can hurt I'm told, but if I call you a screwball, it doesn't mean you can't be my friend. If I say something that offends you, just let me know in a pleasant manner. As I tell my children, "Hey your dad is still a work in progress". My daughter shared how on TV they mentioned they make glue out of old horses. She thought that was so weird. I told her I don't totally believe all that horse into glue story. She asked, "Why?" I said; "Because I've never touched a horse that was sticky". My kid called me a "Screwball". Yes, the comment hurt a little, but I've been called worse.
