I neeeeed to write these two like I need air so thank you for this prompt. Set post-canon/present day. I'm listening to midnights while I write this and honestly that's probably a threat all things considered

"I'm sorry, Arastoo," Cam sighs, "I really wanted to be there."

"You don't need to apologize, Cam," her husband says. "We're no stranger to murder victims messing up our schedules."

"But tomorrow is a big day for you, and I wanted to be there," Cam protests. "It's bad enough you have to drive up tonight by yourself, I can't believe I'm not going to see your first keynote presentation."

"We can only hope there will be more," Arastoo points out with a self-deprecating laugh. "And Michelle already said she would drive Isaiah and Jordan up, so you don't have to worry about a seventeen-year-old on I-95. Of course I wanted you here, but it's not as if I'll be alone-- and I'm sure nobody at the lab would mind if you put the livestream on."

"You make a good point," Cam acquiesces, shaking her head at Arastoo's innate talent for relieving her anxiety. "You should send Tyler the link too-- I remember being nineteen, I bet he'll take any excuse for a break from finals studying this time of year."

Arastoo laughs again. "Will do."

"Doctor Saroyan," says a new grad student who hasn't stopped shaking like a leaf since her arrival, "Doctor Brennan sent me to ask when--"

Cam holds a hand up to stop her and turns away, unwilling to hang up the phone yet. "Babe, I have guts to get through, but you'd better believe I'm gonna be breathing down Booth's neck to get this over with so we can all celebrate together as soon as possible."

"That's not necessary." She can hear his smile. "I love you. Good luck with the guts."

"Call me when you get there safely?" The intern isn't leaving, despite the fact that the body obviously still has flesh on it. "I love you too."

"I'll call. Give the boys my love too."

"Of course, Arastoo." Cam sighs and turns back to the grad student. "Drive safe. Bye."

"Doctor Brennan wants to know if the bones are--"

"Do they look clean?" Cam snaps. Usually she tries her best not to be short with the interns, but she's not in the best of moods today.

"I'll tell her you're still busy," the student says meekly.

Cam sighs and drops her head into her hands.
