This is my favorite cake that was baked by Buddy Valastro, the Cake Boss. He baked it for the Meadowlands race track. They actually have camel and ostrich races there now and then. This cake was huge and adorable!! I love it!! ❤️ It's hard to believe that this is a cake, isn't it?

I Went To The Camel Races!!!!!

I've been wanting to go to the camel races for years and today I finally got to! Dad and I went together on a rare outing. Unfortunately that meant so Mardi Gras but this year it's placed in an area where Covid tends to sprout up, so we weren't really planning on it anyway.

Both Dad and I had been looking forward to it the past month-ish and we were not disappointed. It was loads of fun. There were the races, food carts, a mechanical bull, sweeps, amusement rides, camel rides, show bags and small markets. We even got seats!

Of course, I made sure to take plenty of photos and videos, but there are loads of them so i'll keep them under the 'keep reading' bar.

Before we got there, we found trees who seemed to have shed everything at once, as though panicked at autumns arrival.

First of all, I ate way too much. I had a milkshake, coffee, ham and cheese toastie, mac & cheese croquettes and mushroom risotto balls. Later on I had a chilli empanada thing, fancy guava lemonade made with a bartender shaker, spiral chips on a stick, doughnut balls with custard and a chocolate milkshake.

We were given a guide when we came in and the camels sure had some interesting names. They had camel races, baby races, human camel races and T-rex races, which I had at first read as Trex races, to my absolute, utter confusion.

Both Dad and I had fun with the markets. Dad got himself some genuine Turkish delight and a toy camel. I got 3 scrunchies, a toy dinosaur, toy witch and a toy bat. I love them.

It was a perfect day for horse racing on July 16, 2016 at Canterbury Park, Minn.  In addition to the horses, Saturday’s race card included ostriches, camels and zebras.

Jon Wright helped us out, getting some of the non-traditional track action.  Michelle Benson, a fixture in the Canterbury Park press box entertained all by winning the camel race.  You can see footage of her winning race below.

The ostriches, ornery birds that they are, left a jockey in their wake as they sprinted toward the finish line.  The diminutive zebras (fully grown but tiny compared to the horses) are feisty, sending riders airborne while bucking down the track.

Canterbury Park is a great place for a relaxed day/evening out.  Thursdays are “Buck” night with discounted admission and food.  Sundays are family day and include numerous activities for the young ones including the opportunity to run the horse track after the final race of the day.
