he just hates it it’s like an irrational hatred of his that he just utterly despises the thought of for literally no reason

has a hard time fitting in with kids his own age because of his reputation

this can go like,,,either way. they either don’t approach him because they’re intimidated by where he comes from or they make fun of him there’s no in between

winter is his least favourite season bc it reminds him of when he first saw snow after bruno left and pepa wouldn’t get out of bed for days

he’s really, really creative

also super independent for a 15 yo. u could leave that kid in a cabin alone for a week and he’d survive just by happily amusing himself as time went by

antonio is like. his ride or die. u mess with his homeboy and it’s legit game over for u. camilo would hands down kill for that kid he goes on x-games mode fr

i know they barely interacted in the movie but i like to think him and mirabel are properly best friends. like, in a they fight like siblings but tell each other everything kinda way

his default stress-reaction is just crying. he actually cries really easily and tries to cover it up but never really does

does his fucking best to make his mami smile when she’s upset—he’ll go all the lengths and do whatever it takes to get those tears dry

has the WORST handwriting you could ever see it legit has to be translated by like a fuckinf linguist because it’s that hard to read

swears like a sailor. he’s actually the worst out of all the grandkids and has gotten beat up so many times by alma bc of his mouth

out of all of the madrigals he fights with isabela the most

and it’s usually because she doesn’t have the time for his antics and he knows exactly which buttons to push to piss her off

luisa bench presses him sometimes if he needs cheering up

you know that animation concept of him waving his ruana around like a magician while he shifts? yeah i feel like he does that a LOT

he’s all about the dramatic flair

i know it’s literally canon that he eats a Lot bc he needs it but i sort of hc him to be a really fussy eater as well ?? like he’ll eat so much but rotates between the exact same 4 meals and refuses to try anything else

hogs the bathroom Every Single Morning and enrages pretty much every single madrigal grandkid

he steps out of his bedroom and makes eye contact with mirabel opposite him and they both freeze before fucking sprinting to the bathroom

he’s fast! he loves soccer, loves running around, he’s FULL of energy

he likes to play with antonio a lot, and most weekends you’ll see the two of them around the village having the time of their lives

he’s really good at card games! knows every trick in the book, wins every round, always ends up with his pockets full because he starts betting once the adults have a few glasses of wine in them

he’s got really nimble fingers but he’s still such a clumsy fuck

he can be Horrendously insecure

he can also be very, very moody

sleeps on his tummy

he’s a big hugger and not afraid to show it at All

loves to cook with julieta. he really cherishes their little bake-offs together because it’s such a nice hobby for him

sometimes he has to pull stage curtains over the mirrors in his room when all the reflections get too much for him

he’s had a stuffed chameleon since he was like 4 and still sleeps with it every night

blushes with his ears. they go BRUTALLY red

someone called him annoying once and he still thinks about it sometimes

he’s really bad at math. like, counts on his fingers and cries over algebra homework bad

he can play the piano & accordion really well

loves building forts. will force anyone and everyone to make a blanket fort out of the kitchen furniture. would legit get casita to make a fort with him

he has a collection of little things belonging to everyone he’s ever shifted into hidden in his drawers

bottles up his emotions to the point that he lets every big thing slide until it builds up and something small just makes him explode

he can be really sensitive and goes really quiet if someone’s either intentionally/accidentally hurt his feelings

he’s a little spoon. except for antonio

one of his favourite things to do to wind down is to lie on the couch with his head in pepas lap whilst she untangles every single curl on his head

Random but I have a headcanon that camilo can turn invisible (as fiction likes to pretend chameleons can) but only in extreme distress and it leaves him exhausted for days

wait no i love this cos like

imagine the first time he turns invisible and he doesn’t actually KNOW bc he hasn’t figured out the tells yet so he’s just walking around casita wondering why the fuck everyone is ignoring him

and then he starts to panic because he’s standing in front of pepa like waving in her face and she’s legit not flinching and he’s like ??? is this a joke??? are you all playing a prank on me rn bro what

fully starts to cry, realises it’s not a fucking joke and whatever the hell happened to him is legit because his mami would no way let him openly cry in fear in front of her and not do anything about it

and then he shits himself bc he thinks he DIED and he’s just walking around as a ghost so he falls asleep crying and being miserable as shit and then he wakes up visible again to antonio or someone waking him up for dinner and he’s like??? you can SEE me??? what is going on

and he tells the whole family about how fucked his afternoon was and everyone’s like bruh maybe you just had a wild ass dream idk

and he’s like No This Actually Happened I Swear so he starts to practice his shapeshifting or whatever in front of his mirrors and then it clicks when he feels himself shift and he can’t see a reflection anymore

SO now he’s all hunky dory, all woes REMOVED, those frowns are turned upside down, no more fear bc new power UNLOCKED let’s get this bread Hell Yeah

so he gets the hang of it & starts running around casita trying to show everyone his new trick because yo guys this is sick i can turn invisible!! and he’s like watch this and just fucking disappears midair

completely overdoes it, wipes himself out to the point he literally sleeps for like 18 hours straight and is on bed rest for three days for no other reason than just pure exhaustion & then slowly comes to the conclusion that literally erasing himself from existence for Some Reason takes up a lot more energy than shapeshifting

probably gets dangerously to a point where he fully just collapses or passes out if he’s turned invisible for too much/too long cos his body just cannot hack that shit for an extended amount of time and he needs to recharge for ages afterwards

okay this took me a MINUTE bc there’s so many good concepts but here are a few of my personal faves:

Mortifying and Defying Habits by between on ao3 which tackle the struggles Camilo faces with his relationship with food and his gift — so gorgeously written and the subject is touched with such a respective, graceful delicacy that i really, really enjoyed. 12/10 for angst & fluff tbh, they’re fics i’m always going back to iwl

I Know You’re Somewhere by LK_Xiom, an incredible story that follows Camilo through a heartbreaking journey of trying to return home after he’s been kidnapped outside of Encanto. It’s a cross over with criminal minds but you don’t have to have ever watched the show to fall in love with this fic. It’s crafted beautifully and you can feel this baby’s frustration throughout the entire thing. The fluff, the angst, the hurt the comfort everything SO GOOD

dos espejos by rookwy is another really sweet fic of some cousin bonding between isabela and camilo that i just adore??? all about these sweethearts struggles with alma’s expectations to marry them off when they have no desires Whatsoever, which results in a really heartwarming conversation as they realise how alike they are (basically really good aroace rep for these characters and i just Love it)

feel like i’m glued tight to this carousel also by rookwy is another excellent WIP that i did Not realise i needed—basically an IT au where antonio goes missing in a modern encanto society and it’s so, so interesting, i love the concept and this author writes each character individually so well? super authentic and realistic, such a captivating read and i look forward to chapters every week!!

Mi Sol, Mi Vida by FreeSamPles is another excellent whump WIP that covers Camilo’s identity and self-worth issues and it’s just so good oh my god this one fr makes you want to give this kid a HUG like it’s just ARGH so good

Searching for somewhere to belong by Aquawolf238 is a super interesting WIP i legit just found yesterday that i’ve completely fallen in love with. it’s an au where camilo isn’t a madrigal and has just moved to encanto with his abusive mother — but for some reason he’s drawn to a certain madrigal couple that almost seem to care for him in a way he’s never been cared for before. i’m obsessed with this and i am so excited to see where it goes!

i hope these r enough and that you enjoy them just as much as i did!! there’s defo more that i’ve read that i can’t think of rn so i’ll add some more to the list as i go !
