Did a little something for my gods.
Hecate/Artemis/Hermes candle offerings.
And boy, they loved it!
I made my first dressed candle last night!! I wasn’t going for any particular intention, I mainly just wanted to experiment with application techniques. I feel like the best method I’ve tried so far is to put some oil on the candle, roll it in herbs, and then hold that candle at an angle and drip another candle’s wax onto it to secure the herbs so they don’t fall off easily. I used a mixture of allspice, cloves, rosemary, thyme, lavender and chamomile. really a LOT going on with all of those smells, but I was curious what they would smell like when they burn. as you can see I haven’t quite burned the candle down to the herbs yet, so we will see 🙌
How To Properly Dress A Candle.
You know sometimes when people burn a candle they see this soot and want to know what it means. But it can be hard to read because reading a candle properly these days is different. Let me explain it's different because different candles have different wax, different companies use different wax in their candles and the wick also okay plays apart in it. A good wick is cotton it burns good and last long. If your going to do a reading on a glass candle I suggest you try out different candles and see how they burn then if you find a good one use only their candle products.
Now let's get into candle dressing.
First when you get your candle you need to trim your wick you don't want a long wick it cause a big flame. Next let's say your doing a Money candle you would scratch your name and a dollar signed into the wax. Make it simple not to big or to deep. Reason why is that if its to deep the oils would pour into the was a could make it burn to quickly.
Next rub a light coat of oil around the wax of the candle. Then add just a sprinkle of your herb. Write your petition. now your done.
Right way. Wrong way
But wait let's do it how others tell you to online.
Its said not to trim the wick. I also see some say you need to cleanse the candle.
Then you wipe something that's going to be lit on fire with a flammable liquid. Because someone said you have to cleanse the energy that another has touched.

Then write your name on the candle and then pour some oil, but the oils is a little to much. Next you cover the top of the candle with herbs and flowers and crystals right. Then I see people put glitter into it, another thing that catches on fire. Then add your petition.
Now the candle is lit and it burn hot, it catches on fire and usually instantly creates black soot. ☝️
When you properly dress a candle you going to get spiritual results. And reduce the fire so you can get a good reading and have good results. But can you imagine paying somebody to burn the candle for you and they send you a picture and the results of the reading back to you showing you a candle that looks this bad. The fire is high, candle is burned, chard, black suit everywhere.
Now what happened next after they send you a picture they're going to send you an invoice of all these things that you're going to have to get done because your candle was black and you could have bad vibes, negative vibes, are you could be cursed. All these things are not true. Why because this person don't know how to probably dress a candle.
So to whomever is ready this post remember less is more; spirit doesn't care about these arts and crafts hoodoo candles so take your time and do it right. But if your going to buy these crafts candles I suggest you use it not as a candle but as a piece to be placed on your altar as a object of powder. such as for your deity, saints, ancestors etc .

i call this the release and receive candle. the full moon is the perfect time to let go of what’s not serving you and to receive what the universe has waiting for you
𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴
1 candle - you can use whatever is available to you, but i used a plain white taper candle. if you use a tealight, i suggest melting it a bit with a hair dryer to help things set in the candle
bay leaves - you’ll need some for the candle and some for the ritual
juniper
lavender - i can’t find my lavender so i substituted oil in place of flowers
salt
moon water - i use this for cleansing so if you prefer to do a smoke cleanse or to cleanse your candle in salt for 24 hours that’s fine, too!
olive oil
paper and pen
a few affirmations relating to releasing things that no longer serve us and receiving abundance
𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝗻𝗲
cleanse your candle! i use moon water and a soft cloth, but you can use smoke, salt, or even the moon itself!
𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝘄𝗼 (optional)
carve your sigil into your candle. this is a sigil i’ve created specifically for release and receive, but you can swap it out or leave sigils out entirely for other candles. the star signifies where i started and the lines are where i ended
𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲
oil up that candle! there are a lot of preferred methods, but my usual favorite is picturing myself as the wick so to release i go from the wick down and to receive i go from the bottom to the wick. because this is for both i alternate top to bottom and bottom to top with the olive oil as i work my way around the candle
𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 (optional)
crush up your herbs. some people don’t and prefer to use whole bits and that’s fine. i prefer to mostly crush things with a mortar and pestle
𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲
take your mixture and coat your candle with it. if you’re using another oil like lavender, do that before pouring the dry mixture on the candle.
𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘀𝗶𝘅
let it set! i like to give mine at least a couple hours before using it, but you can do these weeks in advance if you’d like
𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻
when the time comes to light the candle, take the extra bay leaves and write down the things you would like to release. burn them using the flame from the candle. take the paper and write a small list of things that you’re grateful for. repeat your affirmations three times while the candle burns. if you have the time, reflect on what you’re releasing and what would be different without them, and on what things could bless your life right now until the candle burns out, or do a gratitude meditation!
