Okay, imagine this. An AU where the family never died. Everything comes out fine. Nicholas grows up as just that, Nicholas. He travels over places and gets badges and trains his 'mon. Eventually he stands with the choice to go his own direction or take up his father's business, but Matthieu instead takes that, because he feels more to the company than Nicholas does. So instead, Nicholas opens up his own hotel in Kalos, and eventually does such a good job he opens smaller hotels in other regions as he grows older and just.

Fairy Tail AU

In this AU, Colby actually does not belong to a specific magic guild. He is a mediocre magic user at best. He doesn't belong to a guild, as he doesn’t believe he has the skill to contribute anything much. He’s been asked several times, in fact, but he just shrugs it off saying it’s not something he wants to do.

Instead, he has a job in Magnolia Town, offering manual labor in building and sometimes cleaning up after the collateral damage that boisterous guilds (like Fairy Tail) tend to leave. He doesn’t much mind it, as it pays the bills.

That isn’t to say that he doesn’t use magic at all. He owns a silver celestial gate key given to him by his mother, who was fairly accomplished at magic. The one he uses belongs to the Ursa Minor constellation. A small white bear about as tall as Colby’s waist, he answers to the name “Arcas”. He dislikes fighting, but is stronger than his size implies, making him useful in helping Colby out on his jobs.

Colby tends to quietly summon Arcas, rather than the loud, flamboyant manner that most celestial wizards seem to use.

((I did a bit of research on this one because I’m kind of behind on Fairy Tail. Apparently there’s already a key for Polaris, a star in the Ursa Minor constellation, but meh.))
