what is canis’s current relationship with meri like?
Canis and Meri are estranged, to say the least.
Their relationship could always be described as tense.
Canis essentially raised Meri, despite him being about 10 at the time of the abandonment. Children can't raise other children. All of Canis's trauma and hatred ended up imprinting itself on Meri, despite her never witnessing the horrific situations of his early life. He resented her even when he was a young boy, envying her the lack of rot she'd seen compared to him. He wished that he could be as stupid and naive as she was. Canis has always been violent, not only to animals but people too, likely including his sister (despite his protectiveness). The cycle of violence is one of my favorite themes to portray in my writing. This caused Meri to seek escape through religious devotion, amplifying her social isolation.
Canis saw it as divine punishment for being unable to bear the weight on his shoulders when the foundation got her. She was 15 at the time, now 19. He was in the British military (as he had dropped out of high school due to his behavioral issues and selective mutism), unable to do anything when he saw her room empty when he was discharged.
And now they can barely look each other in the eyes. They say eyes are the windows to the soul, but there's nothing behind either of their's.
Meri resents Canis. I mean, if your brother who raised you worked at the place that's keeping you captive, why would you love him? Why would you care if the boy who tried to drown you for your innocence is close by? He didn't even try to save you. Even if he worked so hard to protect you, his attempt was futile.
And of course, Meri knows who her father is now and wails every night knowing he's Satan's possession.
Canis being gay also doesn't help his case in her eyes. I'm not going to outright say she's homophobic but she's a catholic. Canis being gay is a symbol of his betrayal to her.
And Canis can't look at Meri. She's everything that he wants to kill: his past, his family, his emotions, life itself.... she represents Canis's repression that's amplified by his role as an MTF as she rots in her foundation cell.
He hates that Clef actually visits her, apologizes, even if it's futile. Clef knows Canis will never forget what he saw.
"He'll wear a Hawaiian shirt" Waiter, Waiter can I get a 19 page essay of every decision and unfortunate event that lead canis to be a reflection of his father? 🤗
Seriously tho this shit is so good keep it coming
Canis is built to be a mirror of Francis Wojciechowski in lots of ways. I don’t have the energy to name them all. I’m sure you all can put the pieces together.
In my design, Clef’s Hawaiian shirt shows a pattern of lilies of the valley. It is a very clear metaphor of how strongly he is affected by his past trauma and how Lilly haunts him.
Canis’s Hawaiian shirt is similar to Clef’s in a lot of regards. Red background; white outline of the flowers. But instead of having lilies on his shirt, he has another aquatic flower: the lotus.
I wanted to keep the reoccurring theme of reincarnation in Scolopendra to be visible in his final design. But instead of a downward cycle, Canis ends up not following the cycle of abuse and reaches “true” enlightenment through the growth of his character and his acceptance of himself and his mistakes.
The lotus symbolizes growth and reincarnation, as it grows from murky water.
In the end, Canis embraces a part of his past but accepts that it does not define him in his Hawaiian shirt.
Short introduction to all of the relevant characters of Scolopedra Imperatoris/residents of the Penal Colony. I would really prefer if all questions regarding it to be redirected to my main, @myasoko
- Agent Canis
• we all know him by this point
• grief-stricken over the loss of his former lover
• more mature than his previous self
• sole bodyguard of O5-6 and ranch hand of the Penal Colony, in order to not lengthen Egaire Sébastien.
- Juliet von Marzanna
• the manifestation of Canis’s grief over Iceberg’s death
• first name is obviously a female version of Julian (in additional reference to Canis’s serial murders of women in Fetcher) and a reference to Juliet from Romeo and Juliet. Marzanna is a goddess of winter, death, and rebirth in Slavic folklore.
• exclusively appears in Canis’s dreams
• very resembling of the original Iceberg, sans wearing a kigurumi mask that’s meant to look like the common fandom version of himself. When the mask is opened his face is revealed to be made of locusts.
- O5-6 “The Cowboy”
• “real” name is Micheal Delton
• patriarch of the Colony
• originally was a Vaquero who was seduced by the idea of the American dream, joining the US army in the war of 1812 where he was subsequently invited to join the foundation in its early days
• tbh he’s supposed to be the head of the MTF division but in truth he’s only a piece of propaganda to allure agents into giving everything up for the prospect of greatness. Honestly he’s kind of a cult leader at this point
• gay and married to O5-7 but won’t directly admit it
• hypermasculine and extremely toxic about it
• American nationalist even though he’s technically Mexican
• gave up Wesley to the foundation as a display of his devotion
• obsessed with the idea of being chivalrous yet independent, made to mock the modern interpretation of the cowboy that’s so far detached from it’s original purpose to herd cows that’s it’s turned into a violent bounty hunter
• loves chess but is ultimately often defeated by O5-7 as he values short term satisfaction over victory in the long run
- O5-7 “the apothecary”
• “real name” is N.S. Roche
• comedically french
• war doctor in the napoleonic war fueled by the desire to save others. Was recruited to the foundation as one of the first doctors and subsequently was killed by his own experiment “Scolopendra Imperatoris” (anomaly affecting those with unwavering belief and judgement). Was in a gay relationship with Micheal at the time
• Micheal’s grief and anger of his death and the foundation’s willingness to have him die somehow resurrected his ass but something was off. Should have stayed dead imo. Do you see the irony of Micheal being upset at the foundation’s treatment of it’s staff
• a complete shut in, trapping himself into the right wing of the Colony in search of the answer to Scolopendra Imperatoris, aiming to make “the perfect man”
• does care about Wesley. He really does but he’s so obsessed with creating something perfect that he’s ignoring what’s the closest thing he has to someone who is the same as himself
• often defeats O5-6 in chess but is never satisfied with his final win, challenging him to another match every single noon
• “matriarch” of the Colony. Plays the role to reflect the classic nuclear family dynamic
- Egaire Sebastién
• true form of O5-7, only exists when exposed to sunlight. Exists because unlike Canis, Micheal isn’t able to directly confront his guilt, preferring to keep it as some form of “motivator” like Roche.
• so grotesque it only appears as a silhouette, but is meant to look like a giant centipede made of human parts
• every section of the body is one person that O5-6 was personally responsible for the death of. As of now it has over 400 sections.
• secretes an absolutely disgusting scent. Sickly sweet with an undertone of late stage decay
• highly aggressive and feeds on minerals, usually siphoning them from deposits underground. But he’s more than willing to collect his feed from trace elements in humans, but he’s not able to suppress his hunger
- SCP-590
• Holden “Wesley” Delton
• 14ish
• I actually have not written the entirety of his abilities tbh
• has an extremely close relationship with Canis and has little attachment to anyone else
• biologically Roche’s, was born from a clot of his blood that he spilled during an incident
• meant to represent generational trauma
you suck at your job.
@ask-scp-076
And I haven’t read the Bible in years. Cain was always my favorite brother. I understood feeling a hatred to the more preferred sibling, I understood the retribution felt by acting on it. My poor sister. That poor girl. I hated her, she hadn’t met our parents or seen the decay in that house. I raised her as well as I could.
Pleade please please I need to know more about your version of clef
I prefer these questions to be directed to my main ( @myasoko ), generally. Really anything that isn’t about Canis, I would rather have on there for easier access :)
He generally is the same as depicted in usual canon. The majority of Canis’s descriptions of him are extremely affected by his status as a relatively unreliable narrator when it comes to his perception of others.
But currently, I think Clef is kind of killing himself, slowly. Pretty much anyone in the MTF blast radius is affected by the absurd work environment set up by the higher ups. Also, seeing your son that you abandoned turn out the same way that you did at work every week must be torture. The way I hope to characterize him is sort of like those veterans who have nothing to come back to after war.
Some insight into Canis’s full name because I’ve made it before but not that well.
Canis’s first name is Isaiah, a reference to the biblical prophet Isaiah and his respective book. The book of Isaiah has always been a favorite of mine, as the god depicted shows his divine right, his divine authority to punish humanity for its misdeeds. It’s the fire and brimstone. And Isaiah was the man who told how the hammer would fall.
Canis can say so much about the horrors of anomalies, but he really can’t. It’s a punch in the face to be named after the greatest evangelist when you can’t even say his name.
John was the disciple present when Jesus was crucified. But for more than that, Canis’s middle name is John. It’s in reference to the second century Gnostic text called the Apocryphon of John, or the lost book of John. Read about it yourself. Wikipedia is great. I can’t explain gnostic mythology without a degree. But the writings in that book make a great impact on the events of Scolopendra, which the roleplay blog functions as a prequel to.
And finally, Wojciechowski is the weight he has to bear.
