FadeAway and WINGS IOA | 2026 Teasers

HEHEHEHAHEHE I'M SO EXCITED YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!! I'm being ambitious this year. There are two FA scenes I want to get to really bad and I'll make sure I do! This will also be Noriel's year in Wings :D We had a Kana focus last year, now its their time!

Something I wish I saw more of with OCD rep is showing more of the really rough parts, and I mean really really rough this could be confused for a delusion by an onlooker who doesnt understand parts.

Like what do you mean a couple days ago my brain fully convinced me all my friends want me dead. And I dont mean that in the exaggerated haha I think my friends hate me way. I mean it in the "getting close to me was all a ploy and they are all planning my murder, yes even the online ones that cant reach me" way. There's a reason OCD can get misdiagnosed as schizophrenia sometimes yall.

It sucks but I don't think I have ever related to any OCD rep that wasnt written by me. (Except maybe for Moira and Pan Un/Bound.) I know I may be biased cus mine is more harm OCD when half if not more of OCD rep is surface-level contamination, and sometimes *maybe* moral (and I have my own gripes with how some people view moral OCD. But I have seen some good rep of it in comics!), but it really does feel like people dont even want to touch the Scary Symptoms(i.e. magical thinking) or harm OCD with a large pole.

Because Ive been looking into this the past couple days to write dialogue for a character of mine, I want to share;

Did u guys know that when latinos speak "broken english" we are in fact not throwing random english words around and it has gramatical rules? Like for example for the phrase "I am 26 years old." we would say it like "I have 26 years." Or for something like "I don't know anything." we might say it in double negative like "I don't know nothing."

Its called negative transfer. Essentially talking with our language's grammar but english. Fun fact!

Writing a comic about being an ethnic minority is going to be the death of me, we're barely 3 pages into the first Wings scene where I'm not holding back punches anymore and need people to sit with Noriels perspective and Kana being in the wrong for 5 seconds and its task failed instantly. So I'm going to make something clear here:

If you write something insensitive where you missed the point with flying colors I'm not going to approve your comment. The core of Wings as a story is not "a story for white people to learn about bigotry". It's for ME to explore my feelings about being an ethnic minority, and a safe space for other ethnic minorities AND racial minorities (Im no authority on being a racial minority, but to me also just ignoring racial prejudice while talking about xenophobia against latinos is being purposefully obtuse at best. So this story is for brown and Black people as well. Noriel is Literally Black and thats important. So if you're a white latino or other ethnicity, you will also not be allowed to say stupid shit.) White people can read this story and learn from it, but you have to be nice and behave because I'm not going to be your teacher so dont expect me to lol. If I ever explain anything in my descriptions is because *I* wanted to.

Kana will be lowkey insuferable at times and ur going to have to be chill with that. Real Kana fans like her because she can be insuferable and wrong ✌️

Do you have any fun/interesting anecdotes about life in Latin America that you've represented in your OCs/Stories?

This was a very fun question! I had to take some time to think about this, and there's probably still a lot of things escaping my mind.

My favorite ones that I ALWAYS like to bring up to friends to shock them is how we like to set effigies on fire out on the streets (for new years), called monigotes/años viejos and that our garbage trucks have silly music like ice cream trucks do in the USA. (You can hear the song if you click here. It's been the same song since I was itty bitty.)

Kana will mention the burning of effigies on chapter 4! But there's no mention of the garbage truck music on the comic so far. Kana didn't live on LATAM long enough to have those as a memory. But maybe somene else will mention it.

There's also a lot of flooding that happens every rain season here and there was this one time I just? Saw a guy surfing on it? Like, tied a rope to a post and let the flooding waves make him "surf" in place. Really fucking funny. I bring this one up because Evanesce Haven does flood in rain season and I do have characters (Max and Ash, who haven't shown up on in the comic yet) do a lot of similar stuff playing in the rain and messing around with floods that reminds me of stuff I've seen and done myself in my city.

I think the town on FadeAway conceptually is very LATAM inspired despite being in the USA, even thou it wasn't on purpose. Because I tend to write the world as I experience it and well I live here dfbvd. Like, Evanesce Haven being situated somewhere at the base/start of a mountain so it causes the town be covered by mist sometimes. There's a lot of places where I live that do this and La Sierra(mountains) in my country is important to me and so so beautiful, so I made a town like that out of instinct without thinking if that fit anywhere in the USA (it does thankfully LOL)

There's this river area in the woods of Evanesce Haven where the river's water overflows and has a toooon of little rocks everywhere that Noriel and Kana like to pick up and find little trinkets on. Because I couldn't imagine my characters not doing what I do when I go to the beach/La Costa :'D

Then the fact that The Marketplace is a very prevalent area in Evanesce Haven and the reocurring in the comic as a whole until it's very end… because I've spent my life surrounded by market places like El Mercado de Otavalo and other similar ones my entire life.

LATAM has dug a hole and made it's home right at this comic's heart!

Ive actually been slowly very slowly crafting a story that has nothing to do with being a FadeAway AU or Noriel and Kana at all. (ok thats kind of a lie, I snatched some ideas from a dream I had that had FA characters starring in it.) This is like a mayor event for me. I havent crafted a story not Noriel and Kana related in a very long time dkfbvdf.
