Amaryllis: What incident from the past makes you still beam proudly today?
I thought about putting some of my academic achievements for this, or my personal growth over the last couple of years, but if I have to pinpoint one specific event that makes me beam with pride, the first thing that comes to mind is learning to swim. I had no confidence in the water at all when I was a child (to the point where they specifically put my art therapy sessions at the same time as the class swimming lesson because I just couldn’t keep up with the rest of the class), and then my mum insisted that I go to classes when I was about 12 or 13 to at least learn to swim enough to save my life, but it didn’t really help me at all. I didn’t go in the water for years until my friend Jess talked about going swimming in my final year of uni. It turned out that the hardest part for me was trusting myself enough to really relax in the water, and it took me a while to do that, but eventually I was able to lay on my back and float in the water, and after that it all came naturally. This is something that my parents and teachers had poked and prodded me with throughout my childhood, and that I felt immense pressure over, but at the age of 24, in my own time, I did it, and it became something I enjoy very much. Tl;dr I have a lot of self confidence issues and this was something that really helped me with them a lot.
Statice: What is something about you that will never change?
At my very core, the qualities that I think myself as having are integrity, honesty and diligence. I feel that if I lost any one of those, I would cease to be the person that I acknowledge as myself, and would not be true to myself. I’ve backed out of situations and friendships where I thought those were being compromised before, and my greatest regret is letting myself get far too invested in a situation and a person that compromised myself so much that I ended up hating myself for it.
I’M SORRY RAE you’re getting really deep answers, I feel really philosophical all of a sudden.
Something else that will never change is how much of a dork I am over history, that much I am certain XD
