so there’s a lot of negative stuff floating around about civil war and, yeah, i’m angry about the queerbaiting but the movie itself is very enjoyable. it has its problems, but no movie is completely perfect (except tws). i found myself disappointed in some scenes* but, like i said, i really enjoyed the movie. somehow it manages to pair intense action scenes with the more intellectual political side of the story (i was almost persuaded to join tony’s side. almost. if bucky hadn’t been fighting for his life, and if it were a purely political debate, i’d have been on tony’s side)

what WOULD you do w Barnes and the yellow wallpaper if you were able to?

what i want is to rewrite it from his voice. maybe its from the beginning, when hydra holds him captive, conditioning just beginning to set in. maybe it’s from just after new york, a period of watchful convalescence. maybe, though. maybe it’s barned holed up in some stark facility after steve’s death (at his hands, even?), after his final feral break. kept leashed by stark, who is practical in the extreme, having no patience with faith, scoffing openly at any talk of things not to be felt and seen and put down in figures. or maybe it’s the other way around, steve finally putting an edge to his tenderness, his faith in bucky marred by the bloody arc reactor in his hands. steve, who tells buck to help his own self out of it, that he must use his will and self-control

his mind in fractures, his humanity stripped away. trapped in some room, where the windows are barred for children and there are rings and things in the walls. walls not in yellow wallpaper, but some hideous industrial steel plating. marked by scratches, gouges, debased romanesque patterns highlighting the eyes that watch from each corner.

barnes becoming a little afraid of steve.

barnes watching the soldier pace the room, tear at the walls. or sometimes, the soldier watches barnes. one or the other. barnes marvels at the soldier’s mechanic arm, at the ease with which he marrs the steel. the soldier tracks barnes’ soft fingers as they trail along the odd etchings.

instead of healing, ending in wholeness as these stories often do, barnes falls entirely apart. instead of gnawing at the bed and tearing down the walls, maybe he turns on himself. the captain walks to see his face a mess, flesh hand bloody. his foreign arm thrown to the corner of the room.
