Cap-IM Big Bang: Never Too Late for Love

Steve has always believed that a soulbond is a blessing -- a rare and beautiful miracle, joining the thoughts and feelings of two people forever, from the first time they touch. Steve knows he's not going to be one of the lucky ones. He knows Gail isn't his soulmate. But he loves her, even if they're not soulmates, and he's going to do right by her. After the war's over, he's going to marry her, and they're going to settle down. They'll buy a house. They'll have children. He'll see his family again. Maybe Bucky will live next door. It's going to be a good life. He doesn't need a soulbond. He'll be fine without one.

Then Steve wakes up sixty years in the future to find that his wonderful life has moved on without him. His family is long dead. His fiancée married his best friend. And the only purpose he has left is leading the Ultimates, a misbegotten team of superheroes with flaws too numerous to count. Steve hates everything about the future -- but most of all he detests Tony, flashy and flirtatious, who embodies everything Steve hates about a world he never wanted to live in.

And, oh, yeah, Steve has a soulmate after all: Tony fucking Stark.

This is my entry in the 2017 Captain America/Iron Man Big Bang, with art by @phoenixmetaphor. It’s a Steve/Tony soulmate AU, reworking the events of Ults 1 & 2, but in a universe where telepathic soulbonds exist.

Avengers Assemble Steve thinks that his Tony has found a way home through a portal. But it goes terribly wrong. Both Steve and Tony end up on a journey through the multiverse, reliving other Tony and Steve's lives and meeting their multiverse counterparts. Something is keeping them from finding each other and Steve and Tony have to find a way to get back to each other or be lost forever.

Since I had RL medical complications this year I ended up not being able to finish all my BB art. The two artworks i have are from a flashback to when Tony finds steve in the ice but he didn’t go with the Avengers in this au, I really wanted to draw the model 2 armour.

The 2nd artwork is of Tony using the reality Gem to undo everything that happened after Steve gets caught and his identity revealed. I always thought Tony looked badass with the infinity gauntlet and i loved the bright colours involved with it.

Oh my, this is DONE. I mean... I posted when it was still the 27th somewhere, but I’ve been working on this story for years and years, touch and go. BUT I decided to dust it off and finish it for @cap-ironman  Big Bang 2017 and I am so glad I did. :)

I had the absolute pleasure to be paired with @massivespacewren for art. I reblogged it the other day but you DEFINITELY have to go see HERE. She drew a FANTASTIC King Tony (and blacksmith Tony!!!!!), and a so tender Steve in a scene I love. Being paired with Wren is like a shot of adrenaline, joy and support, which I hope everyone gets to experience one day. Wrensplosions for the win! Thanks for everything babe!

Also for potential readers: yes there is blood and violence, but it’s pretty much par for the course for the canons used (mind the tags). And a lovely commenter confirmed that you do NOT need to know Game of Thrones/ASOIF to understand the story. So if you think a medieval AU of basically Iron Man 1 is something you’d like, you might enjoy :)
