On This Day in New York City History January 15, 2009: Dubbed "The Miracle on the Hudson" Passenger jet US Airways Airbus A320, Flight number 1549 piloted by Captain Chelsey B. Sullenberger III and co-pilot Jeff Skiles execute a ditch landing on the Hudson River.
The plane bound for Charlotte, North Carolina lost both engines due to contact with a flock of geese minutes after taking off from LaGuardia Airport. Captain Sullenberger's quick thinking and nerves of steel in piloting the powerless jet ensured that all 155 people on board were safe.

WATCH: Hero Captain Sully Sends Trump Personal Message – It’s Powerful
The Hero of the Hudson just stepped forward to sound off on Trump’s latest horrible idea, and he’s got some powerful words for the president. Retired Captain Chesley Sullenberger, also known as “Sully,” is speaking out against Trump’s plan to privatize air traffic control across the country.
In addition to famously landing a passenger plane in the middle of the Hudson and being played by Tom Hanks in a major motion picture, Sully was a pilot for more than 50 years.
And he says that the plan the White House has officially endorsed—privatizing the air traffic controllers—isn’t something that’s going to work.
“I know what works and what doesn’t. Our air traffic control system is the best, the safest in the world,” he said in a video from the Alliance of Aviation Across America.
“Why would we give such an important valuable national asset to the largest airlines—the same airlines…who often put expediency and cost-reduction ahead of the safety and welfare of others?”
The legal authority of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expires at the end of September. But rather than dealing with the issue before the August recess, Congress simply walked away.
But according to Sullenberger, Trump’s plan will allow the big airlines to control air space entirely. Which means this plan will leave regional and rural airports behind.
“What we really need is someone overseeing our air travel system whose motivation is doing what’s best for America and Americans, and not for their own industry or themselves.”
Democrats in the House seem to agree with him. In fact, several members sent a letter to the Congressional Budget Office, asking for a score of Trump’s plan.
Trump says that cutting the air traffic controllers from the federal government will help close the deficit and reduce spending. But several Democrats say that the bill will actually add “tens of billions” in costs to the federal budget.
“These changes were executed without any opportunity for us, as Ranking Members of the Committees of jurisdiction, to provide input or to debate the wisdom of the changes.”
In addition, Trump’s air traffic control bill would cut 30,000 federal jobs. It’s actually difficult to see any real benefit of this plan.

Sully famously landed a full passenger plane on the Hudson River—literally right on the water—after the craft experienced engine failure. The plane, carrying 155 passengers, struck a flock of Canadian geese.
Sully managed to land without anyone onboard sustaining serious injuries, a feat which no pilot had ever accomplished or achieved before.
Since rising to national acclaim as a hero pilot, Sully has been an advocate for airline safety. Before working as a commercial pilot, Sully was a fighter pilot for the U.S. Air Force.
His voice is one that has resonated in the aviation industry, and he disagrees with Trump’s latest scheme to cut the federal budget.

نجي للإخراج، إيستوود نجح بصنع فيلم ممتاز أحداثه الأساسية ما تجاوزت 208 ثانية !! و غير كذا عرف يضبط اللحظات يلي يحط فيها موسيقى و يلي ما يحتاج لها شي عشان يقدر يتلاعب بمشاعر المشاهدين. للحين المقطع يلي كانوا الراكبين يرددوا فيه “ Brace, brace, brace. Heads down, stay down. ” أثناء هبوط الطائرة ف بالي
للآن الفيلم له عدة ترشيحات لجائزة إختيار النقاد منها أفضل ممثل لتوم هانكس و أفضل فيلم و غيرها من الترشيحات. و أتوقع إن رح نشوفه أحد المترشحين لجائزة الأوسكار فئة أفضل فيلم
تمنياتي الخالصة لتوم هانكس بأن يترشح لأوسكار أفضل ممثل بدور أساسي🌚❤
برأيي -أنا- قد لا يكون هالفيلم هو الأعظم على مر التاريخ ولا أشوفه الأعظم لتوم هانكس. يعني أنا حبيت كابتن فيليبس أكثر من هالفيلم و لكن هذا لا يعني أنه لا يستحق المشاهدة! بالعكس، الفيلم يخليك تعرف التفاصيل يلي صارت بعد الحادثة.
