There was something dripping. It was the only constant in the dark, damp, crumbling room they kept her in. She clung to it, focused on it until it was the only thing she could hear, blocking every other sensation trying to pierce itself through the walls she had created. Her focus blocked out the pull of the shackles binding her wrists above her, cutting into her skin as her own weight pulled her down, the cold biting at her skin, numbing the ache of the wounds that littered her skin. It blocked out the devastating hunger she felt and the dryness of her mouth. Thinking about it she can't remember when she stopped feeling the hunger, doesn't remember the last time they threw her a scrap of food. She wished it would end. That they would get bored and let her die. It would take a while, she knew that, even without water it could still take her weeks or months or, she actually didn’t know, didn't know how long people like her could live without the basic needs any other person couldn’t leave without. But they wouldn’t do that, she had information they needed to win the war. Not that she would ever give it to them. She was stronger than that. At least she thinks she is.
A loud creak breaks the rhythm of the drips. It sounds muted to her, but she remembers how loud it sounded the first time when she woke up in this hell hole. At least the cold air that joined the noise washed the smell of death from her nose. The only welcome sensation this visit would bring.
“Hallo Fräulein,” the man’s voice was distant, barely breaking through the haze that clouded the girl’s mind. “I see you're still not responding to the treatment.” If she was more herself she would have laughed at the comment, but she stayed silent, ignoring the man who was becoming the face of her nightmares that plagued her mind when her body succumbed to sleep.
The man was still talking, he had told her his name at the beginning, but it had become blurred and lost in the time she spent here, she did know three things about the man: he was always impeccably dressed in his dark uniform, he liked to talk or listen to the sound of his own voice, and he was the most sadistic person she had ever had the misfortune of coming across. His skill with a knife was scary, he was probably a surgeon of some sort, or at least he was before he started creating abominations for Hydra, or at least that’s what she assumed he did. He’s never actually told her what he does, just asks her for the same information over and over and over again.
She doesn’t realize that he’s stopped talking until he forces her gaze up to meet his, his fingers painfully digging into her cheeks as he looks at her bruised face. “You know if you tell me how to fix the formula this will all stop Fräulein.”
She doesn’t respond to him, just holds his gaze hoping that it portrays the hate and defiance that she feels. The man continues watching her, amused she thinks but she doesn’t care, she just wants to sleep, but she knows he won't let her. He just smiles and nods, dropping her face and walking briefly away from her before the pain starts again and her screams rip through the room.
