This is a red-headed cardinal beetle. They live around woodland areas and parks in England and Wales, and are most often seen in late spring to early summer. They're carnivorous beetles, and feed on smaller insects, while their larvae eat other insect larvae.

They like to bask in the sun on leaves and flowers, which I think is cute. I found this one on the same walk that I found the swollen-thighed beetles from a previous post, and quite possibly in the same area, based on the flowers.

@greencheekconure27primary submitted: The crab spider with the bee was the first thing I saw after getting off at my bus stop very hungry because I missed dinner 😂 The rest are just assorted bug pictures took. The red one is was cardinal beetle as far as I could tell (they were VERY fast)

アカハネムシなのか、ムナビロアカハネムシなのか…

おそらくアカハネムシだと思います…f(^-^;)

アカハネムシ(コウチュウ目アカハネムシ科)

　・大きさ 12-17cm

　・時期 5-7月

　・分布 北海道・本州・四国・九州

洋ナシのような形の赤い上翅を持ち、

触角がクシ型になっている甲虫。

低地から山地の森林でみられる。

幼虫は枯れ木の樹皮下で昆虫や菌類を食べるとされている。

成虫は花の蜜や花粉を食べる。

アカハネムシ自体は無毒だが、

体内に毒を持つベニボタルに擬態することで

捕食者から身を守っている。
