Red in Anger
It is my belief that the term ‘red in anger’ likely originates with the Cardinalis (Red Cardinal) subspecies. I have interacted with many of them in my life and most of the time they are happy, festive Aves. But then as soon as something is said that makes them feel uncomfortable or attacked even a little bit they erupt in anger and violence. I have never been on the receiving side of one of their outbursts, but I’ve seen them happen more than once late at night in a tavern.
More information about the Cardinalis can be found in the Animalia Almanac.

ES-003 #003 20240112
Swabbed algae clump on Lobelia cardinalis leaf and examined sample with microscope. Sample shows high concentration of cyanobacteria. Cleaned off excess cyanobacteria in ES-003. Will let ES-003 microbiome develop further and hopefully the cardinalis will outcompete cyanobacteria for nutrients.
