Cloud had never expected to accidentally find general Sephiroth asleep while he was on laundry duty, having fully thought that the man wasn't in his living quarters at the time. What he had expected even less was the discovery that the general, the demon of Wutai, the strongest SOLDIER of them all, was apparently a little, the knowledge top secret. Finding no caregiver to take care of the regressed Sephiroth, Cloud finds that he has little choice but to stay with him until he gets big, giving Sephiroth a taste of how life would be with someone who cares near. After that evening, he finds himself craving more of that, and offering Cloud a deal, he finds himself with a caregiver, showing him a world of kindness and gentleness he had never experienced before.

Caregiver!Cloud Strife Headcanons

Cloud really seems like he doesn't know what he's doing most of the time, honestly.

He does great at taking care of his regressor's physical needs like eating, drinking enough water, sleeping enough, etc., but the emotional needs are a bit more difficult for him. After all, most of his experiences with kids are him protecting them from physical threats - he's not nearly as experienced with the emotional aspects of being a caregiver.

It takes a while (and honestly a few tears) before he'll start understanding the emotional needs of his regressor. He's trying, he just. Has a hard time. After everything he's gone through, you can't really blame him, can you?

Once he gets to know what exactly his regressor's emotional needs are, and the various signs of what's needed in any given situation, he's a lot better. He still might seem a bit stiff, but his gentle tone and soft touches make up for it.

Speaking of everything he's gone through, he uses being a caregiver as a coping mechanism. Having a regressor, someone so small and soft and vulnerable in his care, and keeping them safe and happy, makes him feel a bit better about all the heartache of his past. As long as his baby's okay, he feels like maybe he can be too.

He gets a bit startled being called nicknames, honestly. He feels conflicted, but he doesn't quite dislike it at all, so he'll let his regressor call him whatever they want.

He likes reading to his regressor. Or if they're the rough and tumble type he'll play wrestle with them. Both are equally as enjoyable for him. He'll also color with his regressor, although they'd have to ask him to otherwise he wouldn't really get that they want him to color.

Overall it might be a bit rough at first, but after adjusting Cloud is capable of being a great caregiver!
