Daddy Issues - Carlisle Cullen

Summary: Reader is Bellaās friend and she starts falling for a certain doctor.Ā

Spending the night in the hospital wasnāt how you thought your Friday night would go, yet there you were. How did you end up in this situation in the first place?
After school let out, Bella invited you to go with her and Edward to the hospital to visit his father. Once arriving at the hospital the doctor was very busy so the three of you busied yourselves with homework in the waiting room. You couldnāt remember quite why Edward needed to see his dad, but you didnāt mind waiting. Anything was better than going home.
You three spent a few hours in the quiet waiting room doing homework, and by the time you finished you felt pretty good- despite your pounding headache of course. You rubbed the sides of your head in an attempt to make the pain go away, but it didnāt work. Bella mumbled something under her breath about how you never drank enough water but you ignored her.
Edward decided that he wouldnāt keep you and Bella waiting any longer in the hospital so he stood up quickly, offering to drive you both home. It was getting dark outside already so you decided it would be a good idea. You must have stood up a little too quickly though, because the next thing you knew you were laying in a hospital bed looking up at Dr. Cullen above you.
āYouāre awake,ā He stated cheerfully, grabbing the clipboard at the end of your hospital bed.
āWhat happened?ā You asked, sitting up.
āYou fainted,ā He said, flipping through your paperwork, āDehydration. Luckily Edward was there to catch you or you might have ended up with a concussion as well,ā
Bella was right.
āI hope you donāt mind,ā He continued, āI sent him and Bella home, it was getting late,ā
Late? How late? You looked over to the clock on the wall that read 10:30pm.
āOh shit,ā You gasped, throwing the wool blanket off of you, āI have to get home, itās past curfew,ā
āSlow down,ā Dr. Cullen rushed to your side quickly, placing a strong hand on your shoulder, keeping you seated on the bed.
āMy dadās gonna kill me,ā You said, looking up at him, āI need to leave,ā
āYou can,ā He smiled down at you charmingly and your stomach flipped, āAt least let me take the IV out of your arm first,ā
He held your arm with one hand and slowly took out the IV with the other. His skin was ice cold against yours. Nonetheless, you couldnāt help but enjoy the skin-on-skin contact.
āThank you,ā You mumbled as he helped you out of the bed.
āMy shift is over,ā He said, watching you as you put your shoes on, āif you need a ride home?ā
You glanced up at him confused. It seemed a bit inappropriate seeing as he was your doctor. It wouldnāt be too weird though, right? He was Edwards dad just trying to do you a favor. As long as you didnāt think too much about your little schoolgirl crush on him, it would be fine. You were 18 anyway.
āThatād be nice,ā You smiled, trying to hide your blush.
You followed him out of the hospital and into the crowded parking lot to his car. He helped you in- which seemed a bit unnecessary to you, but you let him anyway.
āI really appreciate this,ā You said as he got into the drivers side.
āOf course,ā He smiled at you- once again causing your stomach to flip, āA friend of Edwards is a friend of mine,ā
The ride to your house was rather quiet, but not awkward. Once he pulled up in front, you glanced nervously at the clock.
11:00
He must have sensed your hesitation.
āEverything okay?ā He asked, leaning toward you a tad.
āYea,ā You nodded quickly, āIām fine, I justā¦ā You didnāt finish as you stared at your front door, worried.
āIf you feel faint again, donāt hesitate to call me,ā
You turned to see him quickly writing his number down on a scrap of paper.
āThank you,ā You took the paper from him and shoved it in your pocket quickly, āThanks again for the ride,ā
You quickly grabbed your bag and stepped out of the warm car into the cold night of the pacific northwest. He waited until you were at your front door before driving off, which you appreciated.
You smiled softly to yourself before opening your front door. To your relief, your parents were both asleep on the couch. You snuck quietly over to your room and closed the door quickly behind you. Pulling out the slip of paper with his number on it, you admired his neat handwriting for a moment before setting it on your dresser.
-
The next few days passed smoothly- your parents didnāt seem to notice that you missed curfew Friday night. You spent Sunday at a farmerās market with Bella and Edward. Edward was dropped off by his father at the entrance, who ushered for you to come over. You leaned into the passengerās side window once Edward was out and talking with Bella by the gate.
āDr. Cullen,ā You couldnāt help but let your eyes trail over his face and to his smooth hair that seemed to always stay in place.
āPlease,ā He laughed slightly, āCall me Carlisle,ā
āOkay,ā You breathed, trying not to lean in more toward him, āCarlisle, Iāve been feeling a lot better,ā
āGood!ā He smiled, and your breath hitched in your throat as he took off his dark sunglasses to look at you, āYouāve been drinking a lot of water?ā
āYes sir,ā
He smirked before looking away.
āAnyway,ā He said, clearing his throat, āYou guys enjoy yourselves,ā
āThanks!ā You backed up from his car, āHave a good Sunday!ā
He smiled again before driving off.
āWhat was that?ā
You turned to see Bella next to you with a confused expression.
āWhat was what?ā You asked, also confused.
āYou were flirting with him,ā
āWas not,ā
āYou were,ā Edward added, stepping forward, āYou like him,ā
āI have daddy issues,ā You scoffed, āI like every older man I meet,ā
You walked off quickly toward the market, hoping they would just take it as a joke, but the both of them sent each other awkward glances once you turned your back.
-
That night once you got home, your father was leaning against the wall in the living room.
āHi Dad,ā You closed the door behind you slowly, āHowās your Sunday been?ā
āWhere were you?ā He asked, ignoring your question.
āFarmers market,ā You answered simply, setting your bag down.
āWhy did a boy drop you off?ā
āWho? Edward?ā You asked, āHeās Bellaās boyfriend, Dad,ā
āI donāt care,ā
Your stomach dropped as he stepped toward you. You could smell the liquor on him. Who knows how many drinks he had before you came home.
āIt wonāt happen again,ā You mumbled, looking down, āIām sorry,ā
āYouāre right,ā He said, lighting a cigar once he was standing directly in front of you, āIt wonāt happen again,ā
He blew the smoke directly in your face and you tried hiding your quiet cough.
āWhatād I say about boys?ā
āI canāt hang out with them,ā You glanced over at your mom who was sitting on the couch Ā for some sort of help, but she kept her eyes down on the magazine in front of her.
āThatās right,ā He said, grabbing your wrist, āHow am I supposed to trust you when you break my rules?ā
His grip on your wrist tightened when you tried pulling away.
āIām sorry,ā You said again, āI promise it wonāt happen again,ā
Your reasoning seemed to be going right through him tonight, you couldnāt even make eye contact with him he was so drunk.
āDaddy please,ā You whispered as you tried pulling your wrist away again. His grip tightened again and you held in a whimper.
āIām getting real tired of your bullshit,ā He slurred, coughing slightly from the smoke that was now filling the small living room.
āIām sorry,ā
He coughed some more before slamming the lit end of his cigar suddenly down onto your open palm. You let out a loud whimper as he finally let go of your wrist and walked away to his bedroom.
āRun it under some cold water,ā Your mom mumbled before following him.
Once you were left alone in the living room you fell to your knees and cried silently. Your father had never gone this far before. You held your bruised wrist gently before grabbing your bag and quickly going into your bedroom and locking the door behind you.
Following your mother's instructions, you tried to run your hand under some cold water in your bathroom, but it hurt too much. You pulled away in defeat as more tears silently streamed down your face.
You glanced over at the slip of paper sitting on your dresser with Dr. Cullenās number on it. You couldnāt bother him. Itās too late. How would you even explain what happened to him?
You tried to run your hand under the water again but couldnāt bear the pain enough to clean the wound.
Defeated, you grabbed the paper and quickly typed the number into your phone. It rang a few times before he finally picked up.
āHello?ā
Your breath caught in your throat. You had just seen him that morning- yet you were happy to hear his voice again so soon.
āCarlisle?ā You mumbled, trying to hold back more tears, āUm, itās y/n,ā
āy/n,ā His voice perked up a bit, āis everything okay?ā
āI um,ā You sniffed a bit and looked down at your visibly bruised wrist, āI seemed to have hurt myself a little bit,ā You laughed slightly, trying to make it seem like not that big of a deal, āI just, uhm, I need your help,ā
āOf course,ā he sounded worried but you tried to ignore it, āIāll be over as quick as I can,ā
āCan you pick me up at the end of the street?ā You whispered, glancing toward your bedroom door.
ā...sure,ā He hesitated, āIām on my way,ā
You mumbled a quick āthank youā before hanging up and grabbing your bag, throwing it out of your bedroom window. You climbed-with great difficulty- out of the window as well and closed it quietly behind you. Then, you walked up the street toward the end of the road. About fifteen minutes passed before his familiar car pulled up next to you.
You quickly got inside, hoping it wasnāt too obvious that you had been crying.Ā He instantly reached over to your arm that you were cradling and pulled it toward him so he could look at it.
āI thought you said you hurt yourself,ā He mumbled, pulling your sleeve up to look at your bruises.
āIām sure I did something to condone it,ā You whispered, looking away. You were surprised how comfortable you felt around him.
āy/n,ā He whispered, running his cold hand over your bruised arm softly, āNothing condones this,ā
He set your arm back in your lap before starting the car up and quickly driving out of your neighborhood.
āWhere are we going?ā You asked, looking over at his frustrated expression. He was going 20 over the speed limit and you began to grow nervous.
āIām taking you to my house,ā He said, eyes glued to the road, āMy equipment is there,ā
āIām sorry,ā You sniffed, looking down.
āDonāt ever apologize to me,ā He sounded angry, āDoes Bella know?ā
āKnow what?ā You asked, watching your surroundings speed by quickly outside the window.
āAbout your father,ā
āOh,ā You mumbled, looking down again, āNo⦠sheād probably tell Charlie,ā
āAs she should,ā
You looked over at him quickly, Ā āPlease donāt tell him, my dad canāt get in trouble. He's the only person that can take care of my mom,ā
He looked at you and in the passing of the street lights you could see the anger in his eyes clearly now.
āIām sure you can find someone else,ā
āCarlisle,ā You were basically begging at this point, ā Please donāt tell anyone,ā
He realized how much this meant to you and turned his attention back toward the road without saying anything. The rest of the ride was silent. You pulled up next to his large house after about ten minutes and he quickly helped you out of the low car and into the house. You wouldāve been more in awe of the glamorous house but your attention stayed on your pained arm and Carlisleās hand pressed against your lower back. He was leading you quickly through the house and the two of you finally reached an office with medical equipment in it.
He silently sat you down in the desk chair and pulled your sleeve up so he could once again see your arm. His cold hands trailed down the bruises and to your hand which he opened, exposing the cigar burn on your palm.
You had to admit, his movements were distracting you from the pain very well.
He left quickly to grab a wet towel before kneeling down in front of you and pressing it down on your palm firmly. You gasped, grabbing his thigh with your free hand and closing your eyes in pain.
āIām sorry,ā He mumbled, continuing to rub your palm with the soaked towel. Then he took a burn ointment and rubbed it over the wound quickly.
āHoly shit,ā You gasped, trying to catch your breath. It was the most pain you had ever been in.
Carlisle looked up at you with worried eyes and you realized your hand was still on his thigh.
āSorry,ā You mumbled, pulling it away quickly.
āItās alright,ā He said, still looking up at you, āThisāll take a while to heal, but the bruises shouldn't take as long,ā
He grabbed a bag of ice and placed it on the worst parts of the bruises on your arm before wrapping it quickly with bandages.
āThank you,ā You mumbled, looking down.
He helped you up from the chair so you were standing directly in front of him. You were close enough to smell his cologne and you nervously looked up at him.
āI hope itās not too much to ask,ā He whispered, busying himself with the bandage around your arm, āthat you stay the night,ā
Your breath caught in your throat and you just stared up at him in awe.
āI donāt feel very comfortable sending you back there,ā He explained further, āOur guest bed here has no sheets on it currently, so you can use mine,ā
āYour sheets?ā You asked, confused.
āMy bed,ā
Your mouth dropped open in protest but he stopped you quickly, āItās no big deal, I promise,ā
āI canāt,ā You stumbled over your words, āI mean, youāve already helped me so much- I canāt take your bed,ā
āItās no big deal,ā He said again.
It seemed like you didnāt have much of a choice.

You didnāt see him for all of that week. Eventually Charlie sent you back home because your father was threatening to file you as a missing person.
The week after that you spent alone as well. Your bruises were almost completely gone now, with just a few still showing. You wanted to tell him, but you knew you shouldnāt. You couldnāt stop thinking about him. His hair, his eyes, his hands, his lips against your skin.Ā
Why did he have to leave you with that?
By the third week you started to get better. That was until he showed up at the school. You were on your way to lunch when you saw him, standing by the front offices speaking to the school nurse. You froze and a sea of students continued walking past you. You hoped the crowd masked you from him but he turned anyway, immediately making eye contact with you. You spun quickly away from the cafeteria and out the front doors of the school. It took you three weeks to finally start feeling better but all of that meant nothing now. You dropped your textbooks in the wet grass as you started to hyperventilate.
āBreathe,ā
His hand was on your shoulder, spinning you around to face him.
āWhat the hell?ā You snapped, pushing his hand off of you, āWhy the hell would you kiss me like that then expect me to pretend it never happened?ā
āLower your voice,ā He mumbled, grabbing your textbooks from off the grass and leading you roughly to his car in the parking lot.
Once you were both sat in it he turned to you.
āLet me see your arm,ā He said, reaching toward you.
āNo,ā You pulled away, leaning your back against the closed car door behind you, āAnswer my question,ā
He sighed, obviously frustrated, āI didnāt expect you to do anything,ā
āWhyād you do it then?ā
He looked away from you and out toward the other cars parked outside.
āI couldnāt help myself,ā
The two of you sat for a moment in silence before you slowly rolled your sleeve up.
āMost of the bruises are gone,ā You mumbled.
He reached over again and this time you let him take your arm to examine it.
āThereās nothing more I can do for you,ā He said, letting go of your arm, āThe burn will most likely be scarred on your hand for the rest of your life,ā
āGreat,ā You mumbled, looking down.
āDo you want to go get coffee?ā
You looked over at him in shock. He couldnāt be serious right now.
āSo what?ā You said, frustrated, āYou can tell me that itās inappropriate then ditch me at my friends house?ā
āYouāre mad at me,ā
āObviously,ā
āWhat if I promise I wonāt do that this time?ā He gave you a coy smile.
You sighed, defeated, āFine,ā
He took you to a small cafe in town and bought you a drink. It was mostly empty considering it was 1pm on a Tuesday. The table in between the two of you was very small and his knee kept brushing against your inner thigh.
āDid you excuse me from class again?ā You asked as you played with the straw in your drink absentmindedly.
āYes,ā He was leaned over the table toward you, watching you closely.
āWhy are you doing this?ā You asked, looking up at him.
āI like you,ā His voice was low as he leaned forward more, āBut... there are things about me that you donāt know,ā
āLike what?ā
āI canāt tell you,ā He leaned all the way back in his chair and his knee brushed up your inner thigh more, causing you to lose your breath for a moment.
āThen why warn me?ā
āYouāll probably find out,ā
You couldnāt have been more confused in that moment.
After coffee he -reluctantly- dropped you off at your house around the same time you would have normally come home from school.Ā
-
The next day after school you were standing by Bella and Edward near Bellaās truck when a familiar car pulled up.
āIsnāt that your dad?ā Jessica appeared suddenly behind you.
āYea,ā Edward mumbled, looking over at you, āHeās not here for me though,ā
You looked at him, confused. Why would Carlisle pick you up directly from school? You felt your classmates eyes on you as you made your way over to his car.
āFeel like going somewhere?ā He asked, smirking over at you.
āI guess so,ā
You got in quickly. You knew you wouldnāt hear the end of this from your friends tomorrow.
āWhy would you pick me up in the middle of everyone like that?ā You asked, looking over at him, āPeople are gonna get suspicious,ā
āOf what?ā His dark sunglasses shielded his eyes from you so you couldnāt tell what he was thinking.
āI donāt know⦠that weāre like⦠together, or something,ā
āAre we?ā
You blushed deeply and looked away, āNo, Iām still mad at you,ā This earned you a deep laugh from him.
He pulled up to a trail near a forest you had never hiked before.
āAnother hike?ā You questioned, ābecause the first one went so well?ā
He laughed again and shook his head, āThis is different,ā
You followed him out of the car and into trees. The rocky trail soon turned to sand and you realized the trail led to a rocky beach along the river. You didnāt go to the beach often. The mix of rocks and sand beneath you was unfamiliar. You followed him over to a collection of large rocks along the perimeter of the beach.
āI wanted to apologize,ā He said as he reached over and entwined his cold fingers with yours, āI still feel like this is⦠inappropriate, but... I can't help myself around you,ā
Your stomach flipped as he pulled you closer. You could smell his cologne again. Unable to find the right words to say, you looked away.
āAm I making you uncomfortable?ā He asked, stepping back.
āNo-ā You said quickly, āIām crazy about you,ā
Suddenly he wrapped his arms around you, picking you up and quickly setting you down so you were sitting on a large rock that was behind you. At this height you were face to face with him. His hands reached down and opened your legs so he could step closer. Quickly and feverishly you grabbed his face, pulling him into you and kissing him deeply. His arms snaked around you, pulling your chest into his and deepening the kiss. After a few moments, you pulled away to catch your breath.
āHoly shit,ā You laughed, watching as he tucked your hair out of your face.
Once you caught your breath he leaned forward and kissed you again, this time softer, before pulling away once more.
āI feel as if this is something we should keep⦠private⦠from the public,ā He mumbled, resting his forehead against yours, āI donāt want people talking about you behind your back,ā
āYou should be more worried about yourself,ā You laughed, āYouāre a doctor⦠and I'm just.. a high school student,ā
āYou⦠are⦠everything,ā He kissed you again before helping you off the large rock.
The two of you walked hand in hand for a few minutes down the rocky shore before you froze. You pulled your hand out of his grip quickly and stepped away.
āThat fishing pole- itās my dads,ā You gasped. Sitting on the shore already set up was the same pole your father had when he took you fishing as a kid.Ā
You had been on this beach before.
āHeās here,ā

A rustling came from the trees at the perimeter of the rocky beach and you instinctively stepped behind Carlisle, but it was Charlie Swan who stepped out. You forgot he often fished with your father. He was carrying a cooler- most likely filled with beer- but froze when he saw you.
āy/n!ā Then he spotted Carlisle by your side, ā... and Dr. Cullen?ā
āHi Charlie,ā You blushed, stepping away from Carlisle awkwardly.
āWhat are you guys doing here?ā He asked as he set the cooler down by their fishing supplies, ā... together?ā
āWell⦠I uhā¦ā You stumbled over your words shamefully, still blushing.
āWell you see, I donāt know if her father told you or not, but y/n here fainted at the hospital last month and I told her to call me if she started feeling faint again,ā Carlisle laughed charmingly, quickly cutting you off, āWhen she called me after school today I told her she probably needed some fresh air, but I couldnāt let her just wander off on some rocky beach alone, right? What if she had fainted again?ā
Thank God for his quick thinking.
āWell thatās very considerate Doctor,ā Charlie smiled then looked over at you, āYour fatherās here, heās just grabbing a few things from the truck- if you wanted to say āhiā?ā
āOh... no-ā You started stepping away but it was too late. Emerging from the same direction that Charlie did was your father holding several bait buckets.
āY/n?ā He stopped, confused when he saw you. You watched as his eyes flickered over to Carlisle, then back to you, then to Carlisle again.
āThe Hell are you doing with my daughter?ā
Before Carlisle explained again, Charlie cut in, āSaid sheās been feeling faint again. He was just watching out for her- making sure she got some fresh airā He smiled, but your dad still looked angry.
āSeems a bit inappropriate, donāt you think?ā He dropped the buckets into the rocky sand and crossed his arms, āSome grown man walking alone with a teenage girl?ā
Charlie turned to him confused, āy/f/n, itās Dr. Cullen. And sheās 18, right? Iām sure she can handle herself,ā He laughed awkwardly then stopped when he realized how mad your dad actually was.
Your father turned his attention back to you and you took another step back awkwardly.
āI think Iāll head home now,ā You mumbled.
āDamn right,ā He said, earning a disapproving glance from Charlie, āThink you could do that for me, Doctor? Take her home?ā
āYes sir,ā Carlisle said from your left. He sounded angrier than usual, but it was quite hard for him to look menacing with his compassionate features. He spun around quickly and walked off in the opposite direction of the two fishers. You jogged awkwardly after him.
āSlow down,ā You panted once the two of you were out of their eyesight. He stopped dead in his tracks and turned to face you.
āI should take you back to my house and keep you away from him forever,ā He growled, frustration building up.
āAre you kidding?ā You laughed awkwardly trying to ease the tension, āHeād know exactly where I was. Heād sick Charlie and his other cop friends on you like a damn guard dog,ā
Carlisle shook his head, still frustrated, looking away.
āYour eyes,ā You gasped, watching as he looked back over at you.
āWhat about them?ā
āThey changed,ā In awe, you took his face in your hands, to look at him closer, āTheyāre dark, theyāre normally golden,ā
āDonāt worry about it,ā He carefully pulled your hands away from his face and continued to walk back to his car.
Once the two of you arrived at your house, it took a few minutes of convincing Carlisle to actually let you go inside.
āIāll be fine, I promise,ā You smiled, trying to make him feel better, āIāll lock my door,ā
When he didnāt say anything you leaned over and kissed him quickly before quickly leaving to go inside. As promised, once you got in your room you locked the door behind you.
Four hours later, your father came home. The front door slammed open, then closed. You stood up quickly from your seated position on your bed then rushed over to your door just to double check that it was locked.
āy/n,ā He slurred from the other side, wiggling the handle of your door before he realized it was locked, āunlock the damn door so I can talk to you,ā
You stepped back in panic and your back hit against someoneās tall frame. Spinning around frantically, you just about screamed when you saw Carlisle standing there. He held his hand over your mouth, quickly keeping your gasp contained. Your eyes glanced behind him at your window that was now open.Ā
How did he get in so quickly and so quietly?
He motioned for you to stay quiet before taking his hand off of over your mouth. Then, he walked over to your door, pushing his shoulder against the edge and holding the handle in his grip.
āy/n,ā Your father said again, this time angrier, āI said open the damn door,ā
You watched Carlisle, panicked. He was a grown man but your father was huge, he could break open that door and seriously injure Carlisle while doing it. Before you could protest, Carlisle motioned for you to stay quiet again. Suddenly, from the other side of the door, there was a loud thumping noise. Your father had tried to break the door open. You watched in shock. How the hell was Carlisle able to keep that door closed?
āWhat the hell, y/n?ā Your father said, once again slamming his huge frame against the door. Carlisle barely budged from his position of leaning against it. It seemed impossible.
The two of you listened in silence as your father stumbled off to the other end of the house where his room was. Once he heard his door shut, Carlisle turned to you.
āYou can talk now,ā He said, taking his hand of the handle.
āHow the hell did you do that?ā You said, walking over to the undamaged door, āMy dad is huge, he couldāve knocked this door down easily- and you with it,ā
āI guess Iām stronger than you thought,ā He laughed but you were still confused.
āWell then how did you get through my window so quickly?ā
He shrugged, looking away. Before you could ask another question you froze as you heard your dad yelling from across the house. Carlisle looked back over at your small, shaking frame sadly.
āCan you stay,ā You whispered, sniffing, āplease,ā
āOf course,ā He came over to you, quickly embracing you. Right in that moment you never felt safer, even with your fired up dad just a few rooms down.
āLay down,ā He whispered, letting you go so you could go to your bed. Once you were situated under the covers he came over and sat on the edge of your bed. His hand reached over and brushed your hair out of your face so he could see you better.
āCan you lay with me,ā You mumbled, wanting to be held by him again. He carefully got under your sheets next to you before pulling you back into his embrace, your head resting on his chest. You stayed there for a moment in silence, letting him rub your back softly before you resituated your head on his chest, confused.
āEverything okay?ā He asked, laughing awkwardly.
āI canāt hear your heartbeat,ā You mumbled, keeping your ear pressed to his chest.
āYea,ā He paused for a moment, āItās uh⦠really slow,ā
You pulled away to look at him, āIs that medically possible? Doctor?ā
He laughed again, āIt can be, but itās really rare,ā
āSounds like a load of bullshit to me,ā You mumbled before tiredly setting your head comfortably back down on his chest.
That night was the first night in years that you felt comfortable sleeping in your own house.

The ceilings in his bedroom were high with a large chandelier hanging from the center. His bed was the biggest youāve ever seen, centered in the middle of the large room right across from a grand fireplace. It looked⦠strange⦠out of place. You walked over to the bed and noticed how neat all of the pillows were placed and how there were no folds in the sheets. It looked almost unused.
āIāll check in on you in the morning,ā Carlisle said. He was standing hesitant in the doorway.
Before you could respond, he left. You hesitated before finally taking your shoes off and crawling under the neat sheets of the bed. To your disappointment, the sheets didnāt smell like his cologne which only furthered your theory that it was unused. So where did he sleep? Exhaustion hit you fast and you fell asleep before you could think more about it.
-
The next morning you were woken up by light streaming through the trees just outside the tall windows. You forgot where you were for a moment, thinking last night was just some weird fever dream before you realized that you were, in fact, in your doctorās bed. You sat up quickly, forgetting about your bruised arm before wincing at the pain.
As if on cue, the door of the bedroom opened slowly and Carlisle walked in.
āEverything okay?ā
He was wearing the same clothes he was last night, and you couldnāt help but wonder if he slept at all that night.
āI pushed myself up with my bad arm,ā You mumbled, cradling it.
He knelt by the side of the bed and reached over you to check the bruises. He very carefully unwrapped your bandages. You didnāt want to see the wounds again so instead you watched his focused expression. He must have felt you watching you because he looked up at you and smiled.
āOh my god,ā You gasped suddenly, turning to the alarm clock on the side table next to the bed, āItās Monday! I have school,ā
He held you down when you tried jumping out of the bed, still holding your bruised arm exposed in his free hand.
āI excused you,ā
āHow?ā You asked, watching as he rebandaged your wounds.
āIām your doctor,ā He mumbled, still focused on rebandaging, āYou donāt have to go to class today,ā
He stood up once he finished, then watched as you also got out of the bed.
āI want to take you somewhere,ā He said, handing you your shoes.
You didnāt question it as you quickly put your shoes on. You were just grateful that you didnāt have to go home yet.
The two of you got back into his car and he started driving deeper into the forest.
āAre there other houses out here?ā You asked, looking out into the deepness of the trees that never seemed to end.
āNo,ā
He drove off of the main road and down a bumpy trail. You couldnāt help but worry about his nice car getting ruined in the mud of the trail, but he didnāt seem to care. The car stopped once the trail became too small to drive on.
āWeāll have to walk the rest,ā He said, turning toward you, āIf you donāt mind,ā
āI donāt,ā
You should have. You recognized the fact that you felt far too comfortable around him even though you barely knew him. Not to mention the fact that it was extremely inappropriate. He was your doctor.
You got out of the car anyway and followed him deeper through the rough trail and into the sea of trees. Every once in a while there would be a rock or log in the way on the trail and heād grab your hand to help you over. You grew up hiking in the pacific northwest so you didnāt need his help, but you let him nonetheless.
Finally the two of you reached an opening with a viewpoint. Judging by the overgrown plants around the concrete fence, you assumed it was abandoned.
You leaned over the concrete railing and looked down to the rushing water below. Across the small river was more hills of trees. Clouds hid the sun from the sky and fog set over the tops of the hills making it look rather eerie, but it was beautiful nonetheless.
āThis is insane,ā You mumbled, still in awe of the view.
āPeople forgot this viewpoint existed,ā Carlisle said from you right, āIt became too hard to get to,ā
You looked up at him to see him watching you closely.
āItās beautiful,ā You whispered. You wanted to pull your eyes away from his golden ones and back to the view, but couldnāt. A small smile formed on his face and he looked away. You finally pulled your eyes away from him and and looked back out over the river.
āWould you tell me if I made you uncomfortable,ā He mumbled, stepping toward you slightly.
You looked back over at him, confused. You wouldāve been uncofmortable if it wasnāt for you stupid crush on him. Part of you wanted to step away, it was too inappropriate, but you stayed frozen in place. He reached over and trailed his hand down your waist slowly to your hips, pulling you closer. You wanted to say something, but you were finding it rather hard to breathe.
āIām not uncomfortable,ā You finally got out, watching him closely.
To your dismay, he pulled his hand away.
āI deeply admire you,ā He said, looking down, ābut I shouldnāt act on my feelings... itās inappropriate,ā
He turned away quickly walking back through the trees to his car. You were frozen in place before finally jogging after him.
āCarlisle,ā You grabbed his hand and stopped in your tracks which caused him to stop as well, āI really like you,ā
His hand fidgeted in your grip and you let go.
āIāll drive you to Bellaās,ā He said, opening the drivers side door of his car, āCharlie will keep you safe,ā
You reluctantly climbed in beside him. The car ride was silent and you tried to keep your emotions bottled, not wanting to cry in front of him. It had gone too far, right? Your relationship with him had to stay professional. Once you pulled up to Bellaās house he helped you get your bag and out of the car.
You turned toward him awkwardly taking your bag. The two of you stayed facing each other silently for a moment before he cupped your face gently with his hand and kissed your forehead. You could feel your tears start to well up as he pulled away and got back into his car without a word.
He drove off before you even started walking toward the door.
