Carlisle x Esme : Take My Mind Off Of It

On a rainy night in Forks, Carlisle & Esme Cullen have a romantic, sexy encounter in his office when she consoles him during a night of overthinking. She gives him the invitation to take his mind off of his worries, and he eagerly accepts.

“Dr. Cullen, you are uptight.” Esme took in his posture as he lingered by the window of his home office, staring out into the night with his hands tucked neatly behind his back.

Carlisle caught her reflection in the window pane and a genuine closed-mouth smile made home on his face as he turned to face her. Esme leaned on the frame of the open door and smiled back.

“Things are okay, ya know,” she reminded him.

Carlisle nodded in agreement. “You’re right. They are.”

Esme stepped inside and closed the door behind her. “Do you want to talk about anything?”

He let out a sigh and leaned both hands on the desk as he crossed into the center of the room. When he didn’t immediately speak, Esme tried to fill in the blanks.

“The letter from the Volturi?”

Carlisle’s head slowly rose and his eyes met hers. “It’s been on my mind,” he admitted, “Yes.”

“Do you think it was dishonest?” Esme asked. She leaned on the desk on the opposite side and glanced down when Carlisle slid a hand across, grazing the tops of her knuckles with his fingertips.

“No,” he told her. “But after what happened a year ago it just makes me a bit uneasy.”

Esme nodded and gently rolled her hand over to give his fingers a gentle squeeze. “I understand.” She added, “Talk to me.”

Carlisle gave a barely-there smile and shook his head. “It’s just me overthinking in a moment of downtime.” He brought the back of her hand to his lips and left a single kiss there. “In fact, I wouldn’t mind getting my mind off of it.”

Esme met his gaze as she allowed him to bring her hand to the side of his face. Her eyes fluttered closed for just a second when he kissed the pad of her thumb.

Rain threaded silver streaks down the window panes, blurring the dark forest beyond into a combination of shadows and fog. The steady percussion on the rooftop was a soothing, familiar lullaby in Forks. A single lamp flickered in Carlisle’s office, casting long shadows across the wooden bookshelves that made home on either side of the room.

Esme moved around the desk to join her husband on the other side. She wasn’t rushed, but intent on breaking the one barrier that remained between them.

“Then I think you should take your mind off of it,” she said, closing the gap between them.

Carlisle’s expression changed the second she was within reach. The small bout of strain that lingered in his expression melted away into something warmer, something that had nothing to do with worry.

He reached for her hand, pulling her to him a bit more eagerly than he anticipated. Still, Esme didn’t remotely resist. Even after all those years of being together, the contact was electric. Their lips met a second later, with Carlisle pulling his wife fully into his embrace. The gesture was tender and reverent, though the look he gave her as their lips parted was more playful and passionate than innocent.

When he abruptly picked her up and sat her on the desk, Esme managed a little laugh, letting her smile linger into a second, more heated kiss.

Carlisle’s right hand settled at her waist, steady and possessive, as the other tangled in the locks of her hair as their makeout session deepened.

“Distract me,” he whispered, letting his lips brush against hers as he spoke.

Esme let an eyebrow raise. “Doctor’s orders?”

“Strict orders.” Carlisle continued to toy with her hair, “It’s a necessary treatment.”

Her laugh was soft, but muffled by his hungry attempts to kiss her again. Still, there was no rush, there never had been between them. Time was the one thing that would never be an enemy.

Carlisle’s hand slid up the back of her shirt, feeling her skin against his palm as he stepped fully between her legs, drawing her fully against him.

Esme’s head tilted back when his mouth trailed from hers to the curve of her jaw, mapping a path down toward her neck. When his lips found the faded scar where he had changed eternity for the both of them, Esme moaned quietly into his ear and held him tighter. It was a pleasure she couldn’t help but indulge in, and Carlisle was well aware of the effect it had on her. The scar was a memory, the moment they solidified their forever union.

When she moaned again and her legs tightly framed the outsides of his, Carlisle let out an almost-wicked chuckle against the center of her ear.

“Mmm.. you are in rare form, Dr. Cullen,” Esme said quietly, beginning to undo the top two or three buttons of his finely-pressed shirt.

“Staying quiet is going to be a struggle.”

She smiled, relishing in the fact that she was the only one who could strip Carlisle of his self-control.

“I think that’s why Alice and Jasper made plans tonight,” Esme told him, unable to keep a smile from her face, “She’s the only one that can tell the future.” Her fingers continued to thread the buttons of his shirt until they were all undone and she shoved the fabric off of his shoulders. “How’s the overthinking going?”

“Completely gone.” Carlisle shrugged the shirt off and let it drop to the floor before pulling her face back to his to kiss her again.

Esme worked at the buckle of his belt now as they kissed, this time drawing a moan from Carlisle that began in the depths of his chest and transferred from his mouth to hers. His arousal tented the front of his khakis and with one swift movement that Esme hadn’t been expecting, he yanked down the long, purple skirt she had been wearing. She kicked it off the rest of the way and locked her legs around the backs of his.

Carlisle’s hands slid up the outsides of her thighs before the fingers of his right hand traced the lacy edge of her underwear. Both of them could feel the desperation in the other and Esme’s breath picked up when he used his fingers to shove the fabric to the side.

Their eyes met, with Carlisle’s tongue sliding across his lower lip as he eased his first two fingers inside of her.

Esme bit down on her lower lip, not wanting to look away from his darkened eyes, but closed hers when the pleasure immediately began to build. She arched into his touch, prompting him to push deeper as he kissed her again.

She suppressed the moans she so desperately wanted to let out when their lips parted. Carlisle could sense it and it aroused him even more. He created a slow, torturous pace that even he deemed unfair. Still, it was enticing and Esme clenched his forearm with one hand.

“Do you want me to stop?” He whispered in her ear, letting his nose graze against her cheek as he continued what he was doing, moving his fingers in a careful, circular motion inside of her.

Esme released the grip she had on his arm and shook her head, holding him around his bare upper back again. She let out another quiet moan, one Carlisle silenced with a kiss, all the while not letting up on his pursuit of her body.

“Shh…” he teased, “We have to keep quiet, remember?”

When Carlisle removed his fingers from inside of her, Esme was able to breathe again. Her eyes fluttered open and saw Carlisle’s pleased expression.

“Mmm…” She spoke quietly, feeling his strained arousal against her inner thigh. “You really are in rare form tonight.” With the brief break in their foreplay, Esme carefully shoved his unbuckled belt to the sides before working the button and zipper of his pants.

Carlisle watched her movements as she assumed control and closed his eyes when his erection finally sprung free of his pants.

Esme urged his lower half toward her, pushing her calves against the backs of his knees as she leaned back just slightly with her forearms pressed down on the desk behind her.

He put his hands on either side of her, stepping out of his khakis as they slid down off his waist. Carlisle pulled her by her lower back, sliding her to the edge so he could successfully connect himself to her.

Both of them let out a deep breath in unison. He gave her a moment to adjust before starting to move at a slow, controlled pace.

The desk creaked beneath his thrusts, and Esme held him hard as she sang his praises in his ear. When Carlisle kissed the scar on her neck again she couldn’t fully control herself. Despite her loud lament for him, he didn’t bother to try to sensor her this time. 

The rain continued to patter against the window, encasing them in their own private world as they forgot everything around them and got lost in each other. Their ragged breaths collided as their lips grazed and eyes alternated between open and shut in the midst of their lovemaking.

Carlisle could feel Esme tightening around him, holding him there like a vice as her body began racing toward orgasm. He struggled to keep his eyes open so he could study her expression, adding to his arousal as his thrust became more powerful and relentless.

“Carlisle,” Esme whispered, wanting to scream it out loud. She would have if they’d had the house to themselves, or if every other member of their family didn’t have the superpower of hearing just about everything.

He didn’t let up and held her hips more firmly when Esme’s bottom lip separated entirely from her top one. Her eyes were pressed firmly shut and she tangled a hand in the back of his hair. The other still clung firmly against the tense muscles in his upper back.

Carlisle grunted and groaned, struggling to hold on. It became impossible when he felt her walls clench against him. Esme cried out again as she shattered around him, coming completely undone in his arms. When Carlisle felt her pulsing against him and unable to hold in her pleasure, he let out a guttural moan and released inside of her.

He rocked his hips up and into her again as he came, letting his upper body collapse on top of hers as Esme’s back fell onto the top of the desk. She held him close, panting as he lazily kissed along the tops of her breasts.

Carlisle’s shoulders rose and fell with a series of deep breaths before his eyes finally reopened and he stared down at his wife. Her hair flowed wildly in all directions on the wood beneath where she laid and he managed a small smile before nudging his nose with hers and kissing her firmly on the lips.

Esme made it linger, pulling him back down to her when he began to part from her and kissed him again. Her hand lingered on his face as he continued to stare down at her with adoration as the honey color of his eyes began to gradually return.

“What are your plans for the rest of the evening?” He asked her in a voice just above a whisper, not at all prepared to climb off of her just yet.

“I do have plans,” she informed him.

Carlisle pressed his eyebrows together, unable to hide his immediate disappointment.

Esme smiled, purposely toying with his already messed up hair to match the wildness of her own. “I plan to draw a bath,” she explained, pulling the heel of his hand to her lips, before allowing him to link his fingers through hers where they rested beside her head on top of the desk. “And then not leave the bedroom until sunrise.”

Carlisle sucked his teeth and couldn’t help but grin, mentally penning this as an invitation. “Would you like some company?”

Esme’s fingers tightened around his and she slowly nodded, unable to keep a smile from her face. “I might need you to take my mind off a few things.”

“I’d be honored to return the favor.”

I feel like Carlisle has to have some extreme guilt and anxiety about practicing medicine for so long. He's over 300 years old. Medical practice has changed a ton in those years. I feel like he would have constant guilt about his treatment of his patients which he later found out was harming them. In addition to that, I think he would have a lot of anxiety about what he's doing now, and if he'll find out it was harmful later.

For example, how much cocaine did he prescribe? How many patients smoked and died from lung cancer before he found out smoking was harmful? How many lobotomies did he recommend? How many blood transfusions were for the wrong blood type? How much harm did he cause in 300 years because he didn't know and trusted what was supposedly the cutting edge of medicine?

I don't know if this concept is explored in the books but I think it's interesting. I don't think Carlisle is some all-knowing doctor who knew what practices would be found harmful and if he did he didn't spread the word to prevent more harm. Carlisle lived through Victorian era medicine, arguably one of the most bat shit insane and harmful eras of medicine. Carlisle is also practicing in the US and Europe, aka Western countries. Western countries have historically been behind the curve when it comes to medicine. The most well-known example being c sections, something practiced safely and successfully in Africa for hundreds of years and only beginning to see success and introduction in the mid to late 1700s. Western doctors also only started regularly washing their hands in the late 1800s and 1900s 😐

I am re-reading the books (SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIES…but I do like the actors used.) and came across some moments of Charlie talking about Carlisle which made me smile. Carlisle is actually a wolf in sheep’s clothing

So, just to clarify vital points demonstrating that Carlisle is a villain, portrayed as a saint and I even get the feelings that he acknowledges how evil he is, yet doesn’t change his racist/unethical shady behaviour from 17th century. Like we have to acknowledge his malicious essence. Feel free to add more please.

He was born and grew up in 17th century London under a heavy Anglican influence. This had to have immense impact on his persona, even though he tries to deny it or whatever. The idea of morals were absolutely twisted: for example Anglican church was heavily involved in slavery and persecuted any other religions.

Imperialist behaviour: the fact that they stayed on the Native land is just absolutely ignorant and vile. Devastating the lives of Native people. He took Jacob’s DNA sample!!!!! That’s the most unethical and dehumanising bullshit ever! As a doctor you’re not allowed to do that nor as a human being, you cannot exploit people for your own interest wtf

Complex of superiority: he literally turned Edward, Esme, Emmett and Rosalie without any kind of consent? That’s just mad.

Objectification of Rosalie/grooming: again, he thought of her as a potential partner for Edward. Not sure whether that was his sole reason to change her. Legacy perhaps of his old upbringing? Where women had literally 0 rights.

Attracted to a minor/pedophilic: he literally was attracted to Esme when she was 16. This is questionable since it was Esme who was clearly mesmerised by him, but since the author is Mormon, wouldn’t be surprised. (Ed.)

Awful morals: He invited racist/Nazi to live with his family. He was somehow able to get blood for Bella from hospital, like wtf mate? You cannot buy so much blood for your daughter in law. The entitlement, seriously.

You didn’t see him for all of that week. Eventually Charlie sent you back home because your father was threatening to file you as a missing person.

The week after that you spent alone as well. Your bruises were almost completely gone now, with just a few still showing. You wanted to tell him, but you knew you shouldn’t. You couldn’t stop thinking about him. His hair, his eyes, his hands, his lips against your skin. 

Why did he have to leave you with that?

By the third week you started to get better. That was until he showed up at the school. You were on your way to lunch when you saw him, standing by the front offices speaking to the school nurse. You froze and a sea of students continued walking past you. You hoped the crowd masked you from him but he turned anyway, immediately making eye contact with you. You spun quickly away from the cafeteria and out the front doors of the school. It took you three weeks to finally start feeling better but all of that meant nothing now. You dropped your textbooks in the wet grass as you started to hyperventilate.

“Breathe,”

His hand was on your shoulder, spinning you around to face him.

“What the hell?” You snapped, pushing his hand off of you, “Why the hell would you kiss me like that then expect me to pretend it never happened?”

“Lower your voice,” He mumbled, grabbing your textbooks from off the grass and leading you roughly to his car in the parking lot.

Once you were both sat in it he turned to you.

“Let me see your arm,” He said, reaching toward you.

“No,” You pulled away, leaning your back against the closed car door behind you, “Answer my question,”

He sighed, obviously frustrated, “I didn’t expect you to do anything,”

“Why’d you do it then?”

He looked away from you and out toward the other cars parked outside.

“I couldn’t help myself,”

The two of you sat for a moment in silence before you slowly rolled your sleeve up.

“Most of the bruises are gone,” You mumbled.

He reached over again and this time you let him take your arm to examine it.

“There’s nothing more I can do for you,” He said, letting go of your arm, “The burn will most likely be scarred on your hand for the rest of your life,”

“Great,” You mumbled, looking down.

“Do you want to go get coffee?”

You looked over at him in shock. He couldn’t be serious right now.

“So what?” You said, frustrated, “You can tell me that it’s inappropriate then ditch me at my friends house?”

“You’re mad at me,”

“Obviously,”

“What if I promise I won’t do that this time?” He gave you a coy smile.

You sighed, defeated, “Fine,”

He took you to a small cafe in town and bought you a drink. It was mostly empty considering it was 1pm on a Tuesday. The table in between the two of you was very small and his knee kept brushing against your inner thigh.

“Did you excuse me from class again?” You asked as you played with the straw in your drink absentmindedly.

“Yes,” He was leaned over the table toward you, watching you closely.

“Why are you doing this?” You asked, looking up at him.

“I like you,” His voice was low as he leaned forward more, “But... there are things about me that you don’t know,”

“Like what?”

“I can’t tell you,” He leaned all the way back in his chair and his knee brushed up your inner thigh more, causing you to lose your breath for a moment.

“Then why warn me?”

“You’ll probably find out,”

You couldn’t have been more confused in that moment.

After coffee he -reluctantly- dropped you off at your house around the same time you would have normally come home from school.

The next day after school you were standing by Bella and Edward near Bella’s truck when a familiar car pulled up.

“Isn’t that your dad?” Jessica appeared suddenly behind you.

“Yea,” Edward mumbled, looking over at you, “He’s not here for me though,”

You looked at him, confused. Why would Carlisle pick you up directly from school? You felt your classmates eyes on you as you made your way over to his car.

“Feel like going somewhere?” He asked, smirking over at you.

“I guess so,”

You got in quickly. You knew you wouldn’t hear the end of this from your friends tomorrow.

“Why would you pick me up in the middle of everyone like that?” You asked, looking over at him, “People are gonna get suspicious,”

“Of what?” His dark sunglasses shielded his eyes from you so you couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

“I don’t know… that we’re like… together, or something,”

“Are we?”

You blushed deeply and looked away, “No, I’m still mad at you,” This earned you a deep laugh from him.

He pulled up to a trail near a forest you had never hiked before.

“Another hike?” You questioned, “because the first one went so well?”

He laughed again and shook his head, “This is different,”

You followed him out of the car and into trees. The rocky trail soon turned to sand and you realized the trail led to a rocky beach along the river. You didn’t go to the beach often. The mix of rocks and sand beneath you was unfamiliar. You followed him over to a collection of large rocks along the perimeter of the beach.

“I wanted to apologize,” He said as he reached over and entwined his cold fingers with yours, “I still feel like this is… inappropriate, but... I can't help myself around you,”

Your stomach flipped as he pulled you closer. You could smell his cologne again. Unable to find the right words to say, you looked away.

“Am I making you uncomfortable?” He asked, stepping back.

“No-” You said quickly, “I’m crazy about you,”

Suddenly he wrapped his arms around you, picking you up and quickly setting you down so you were sitting on a large rock that was behind you. At this height you were face to face with him. His hands reached down and opened your legs so he could step closer. Quickly and feverishly you grabbed his face, pulling him into you and kissing him deeply. His arms snaked around you, pulling your chest into his and deepening the kiss. After a few moments, you pulled away to catch your breath.

“Holy shit,” You laughed, watching as he tucked your hair out of your face.

Once you caught your breath he leaned forward and kissed you again, this time softer, before pulling away once more.

“I feel as if this is something we should keep… private… from the public,” He mumbled, resting his forehead against yours, “I don’t want people talking about you behind your back,”

“You should be more worried about yourself,” You laughed, “You’re a doctor… and I'm just.. a high school student,”

“You… are… everything,” He kissed you again before helping you off the large rock.

The two of you walked hand in hand for a few minutes down the rocky shore before you froze. You pulled your hand out of his grip quickly and stepped away.

“That fishing pole- it’s my dads,” You gasped. Sitting on the shore already set up was the same pole your father had when he took you fishing as a kid. 

You had been on this beach before.

“He’s here,”
