ACTION & ADVENTURE Opens Saturday, January 19th - 6pm-9pm Running through January 26th only RSVP
RGB shop+gallery presents ACTION & ADVENTURE, a new collection of work showcasing the brave and whimsical world of Carly Dooling and Louise Leong, two illustrators and printmakers based in the Bay Area. Carly Dooling is an illustrator from Southern California. Through the use of natural imagery as symbols of emotion, she attempts to confront the complex and confusing layers of her own life. Much of her work represents the common struggles of women everywhere – love, anxiety, inexplicable joy & sadness, and everything else in between. The simple and silly moments of everyday life, as well as the giant and fabulously imagined scenarios which we often construct in our own heads as a response to our daily struggles, are her inspiration. In the end, her illustrations seek to elicit laughter and empathetic sighs from her audience – a deeper understanding of the giant, complicated, heartfelt world which is the 'human condition'. Louise Leong is an illustrator and printmaker living in Santa Cruz, California. Her illustrations have been featured on Bonny Doon Vineyard wines and won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. She is a member of the Printmakers at the Tannery, at the Tannery Arts Center in Santa Cruz. Inspired by the narrative of vintage cartoons and comics, she has created a universe of characters with a mythology of their own. Her imagery blends humor and wit while paying homage to the lumpy-headed cartoon rascals who came before her own. As always, this recent series pays tribute to childhood mischief but with an added element of danger. Adventure awaits!
