A Sanchez Family Tradition

Hi everyone! Sorry about the sparce updates. As Mary Beth said, “Life can be tough for the living.” To combat that and avoid my homework, here’s a detail I noticed. This one pertains to the scene where Carlos convinces Manolo to go into the ring. We get a view of each of the male bull fighters in the Sanchez family.

As you can see, each of the three deceased Sanchezes have candles to honor them. Luis and Jorge also have a sword underneath their portraits and since Carmelo does not seem to have a sword, I thought he fought bulls with his bare hands given how big he is.

Next we have Carlos’s picture. Since he is not dead, yet, so no candles for him. He does however still have a sword underneath the portrait.

And if you look closely, up in the corner of Carlos’s portrait, you can see a small picture of Manolo. No sword or candles.

Looking at all these portraits I came up with an idea. The swords naturally represent the bullfighting the men have done in their lives, probably put up when they died or retired in Carlos’s case. The bullfighters also have nice large portraits of themselves. However since Manolo has not proved himself to be a matador, he only gets a small recognition, a small picture with the rest of his family. In theory, if he continued the family tradition of bull fighting, he would have gotten a larger portrait as well as a sword underneath it when he retired or died. However, I am curious to see how this room might change if we seen it again in the possible sequel.
