darling i really hate to say this but i believe you may still have issues
[Carnage found family au & the evil bookclub]
Frances: What if we played two truths and a lie?
Cletus: Should I go first? Okay... I was convicted of eleven murders, I own a real, Honest-To-God, magical book, and my eyes are green.
Eddie: Well this is too easy...
Frances: His eyes are blue.
Eddie: WHAT?!
Frances: You have a book of magic?!
Cletus: Oh yeah, I found it in granny's attic some years ago...
Frances: And you didn't share it with me?
Cletus: I honestly forgot about it until just now. And I wasn't sure about sharing it because well it's like... gross. I'm pretty sure it's bound in human skin. And knowing a bit of history and all.. Didn't know if you'd like it.
Eddie: You're pulling my leg, right? It sounds like you're describing the Necronomicon.
Cletus: Uh.. its kinda like that, yeah. Ever heard of something called the Darkhold?
Carnage: You should leave it alone. You didn't just forget Cletus. There's a hole in your mind, gaps in your memory. We shouldn't fuck with it. Eddie: ...I never thought I'd say this but I'm with Carnage on this one. What were you even doing with something like that?
Cletus: It was in another language... difficult to use, but I found some simple spells. Seeking, to help find Frances, and Protection to avoid getting caught. It worked, it was working... until it didn't.
Eddie: So it didn't work.
Cletus: No, it did work. I was so close but then I did something. I... I think I displeased what was on the other side.
Carnage: All the more reason not to fuck with it!
Frances: ...Can I see it?
Carnage: No, no, no, no. Do not mess with this! It resonates across the Hive, across universes. It's not a book. It's a gaping wound. And it left a scar on you Cletus. On your mind and soul.
Frances: I don't want to use it! I just want to know!
Eddie [to Cletus]: So what did you do that so displeased the devil?
Cletus: ...Not killing someone.
Eddie: Really?
Cletus: I was using the power but not understanding the price. There was this young girl at one of the camps, one of the Ravencroft facilities. A regenerating type mutant. They were torturing her. I... [To Frances] I didn't think you'd like that. So I helped her get away. But that wasn't part of the agreement. I lost my protection. They caught me soon after that.
Thinkin' bout this post and being stuck in a jar with some goo and Carnage '16... What if, instead of comically large forearm engulfing "hand cuffs", the FBI kept Eddie and Toxin in a jar when not on mission? And what if the only thing they can do is interact with each other in a shared mental space?
It's like a get-along-shirt (except it's a jar) at first. They can fuss and fight and struggle as much as they want. Eventually they start talking to each other, after all they don’t have anyone else who'll listen.
Eddie gets breaks where he gets pulled out for training (he was running around with a gun, and he was expected to fight without Toxin in Carnage'16, so he must’ve learned somehow). Toxin, though, is stuck alone in that mental space unless he's let loose or Eddie is put back in the jar.
They spend time talking about their frustration and drama. Eddie has little to live for and is stuck and collared by the government. He struck me as not really caring whether he lived or died in Carnage '16. Meanwhile, Toxin also doesn't have much going for him. All he wants is to kill Carnage, since no one else has taken the time to know him. So they learn about each other. Eddie realizes that Toxin is the kind of symbiote he can trust to help Jubulile save the world. Toxin realizes there's more to the world than kill or be killed and that he might not be destined for villainy.
And maybe when it's all said and done they meet up with Flash and Venom and become some sort of found family QPR thing.
Carnage vol 2 #4 & 5 Us too, Carnage...us too.
I know Eddie isn’t the host in this series, but I would genuinely recommend “Venom: Space Knights” to people.
It’s about Venom/Flash Thompson in space and is really good for several reasons.
On top of klyntar culture details and the additional characters also being good, including several well-written female characters, there’s also the fact that the symbiote is treated well and like a genuine person by Flash Thompson.
The two explicitly being friends here and Flash working to repair the fact that...well, his initial history with symbie wasn’t great. To put it mildly - it was abhorrent.
But now?
As said, much better and they’re both working to continue that progress.
Seriously, there’s scenes like this in the run:
And this-
And this-
Which, woah, really shows how far the character development has come
And more, but I shan’t give anymore spoilers.
It’s wonderful.
Also: While Carnage 2016 is what got Eddie Brock in place to become Venom again - another fantastic comic I wholeheartedly recommend for several reasons - this is where the symbiote gets the character development that enabled them to be how they are in the Venom 2016 run.
Without Venom: Space Knights and Carnage 2016, it simply would not have happened.
So, basically: Even if you absolutely will not read any other comics which do not feature Symbie and Brock together - please do read both of those two runs.
You will not regret it.
Oh! Oh Eddie!
Eddie acting like Eddie! Eddie giving a shit about a kids safety more than anything else going on!
So many times people tell me "well he was too stressed to give a shit about Dylan when he first met it."
He is currently in this scene trying to stop the end of the world via Cthulhu. And he still cares more about Jubulile's safety.
Aaaahhhhh!!! *all the chef kisses*
