Daily fish fact #543
Sawfish!
They can also be called carpenter sharks, though they are actually rays! All species of sawfish are unfortunately endangered.
Just finding out that Sawfish have their own day, and that day is TODAY!! ❤️ Share some love and appreciation for your local Sawfish that is a 'shark' but not a shark! 🪚🦈
Finished this a couple of weeks ago, artwork for a friend
So I went to Ripley’s aquarium in Myrtle Beach recently
and i had to honor of meeting this absolute beauty
(yes, i know my photography sucks)
Which got me thinking…
These big ole’ fish are known as either carpenter sharks or their more common name, sawfish, for obvious reasons.
BUT BRUH
WE COULD’VE NAMED THEM SEASAWS INSTEAD!!!!
BECAUSE THEY’RE SAWS THAT LIVE IN THE SEA!!!!
Scientists had the opportunity to name this thing a seasaw.
But they thought, “No let’s call it the much less fun carpenter shark/ sawfish.”
Petition to change their name to the seasaw in the comments below
