This is an NPR, or nerve pulse relay, It's what the pilots use in wrought iron in order to connect to the mechs. ①: These parts stab into just above the shoulder blades, about 2 centimetres deep into the skin. They're what deliver pain signals from the mech to the pilot - this is done as a result of the fact that connecting the pilot to the mech will make the pilot also feel the pain of the mech being damaged. They can block this pain, but it makes the connection less efficient and creates a slight delay between pilot thinking of an action and the mech doing it.

②: These wires come out of ports on the side of the NPR (looks kinda like the back of a PC and connect to the cockpit itself. They're what transmit pain, instructions etc.

③: These contain small tanks of a cocktail of adrenaline and other stimulants, which aren't actually controlled by the pilot; rather by their superior/mission manager, who can decide that the pilot's performance needs a boost. Sadly, the effect of these only worsens the already bad effects of coming off of a piloting high - essentially sickness and withdrawal symptoms after disconnecting from an NPR

④: This is the scarring from the connection in ①, as well as the area around it becoming irritated from the many tiny spikes that the NPR uses to transmit smaller signals and keep the NPR adhering to the pilot's back however they may flex and strain in their cockpit :) Additionally, the darker parts around the connectors is caused by burning that happens when there's a lot of signals, normally pain, being transmitted at once, so the many electrical signals can cause burns on the pilots skin. This, obviously, hurts as well as worsening the effects of whatever pain is already causing the burns ⑤: Insertion scars from the needles from the stimulant injectors, these get considerably worse when they're actually used. uhhh yay i made art. yay hooray. any suggestions or advice or corrections medically are accepted but please keep it constructive as a bonus that's Carrion in the first drawing by the way

Dark Kingdom Rising

I may be recovering from being sick right now, but that won't stop me from celebrating this chapter! This is one of the OG ideas I had from first writing this fic. It's like a filler episode, but tbh those are my favorites! A part with the Brotherhood doing a scouting trip together, Amelia meeting her new, future BFF Carrie, and some more relationship building with Hector and Amelia. Also, you meet the scum that is Orlon.

ab your mecha thing. why are they rebelling?

General oppression, normal reasons you'd see in any other rebellion thing. The rich are too rich, the poor are too poor. There's widespread oppression of minorities, and the wealth gap is huge.

The capital city of the state is a megacity with a population in the tens of millions, and yet most of the residents of this city are in poverty. The only rich people in the city are in the city center.

This also brings me onto another thing, the rich/the military use airships for transport and that kind of thing, and seeing them flying over the city has always made a lot of people very spiteful toward the rich/ruling class, and the rebellion started after one of these airships was attacked, killing an important government person and causing this civil war

How are the mechs made? 👀 Who makes them? Were do these people live? How do they get their food?

you've sent a lot of asks (Which is super appreciated btw!! ty so much !!) so i'm gonna answer them one by one How are the mechs made?

The country (yet to name the country.. suggestions accepted lol) has their mechs mass produced by one specific (government owned) company. This mass production makes them lower quality construction but higher quality parts, e.g stronger motors (as i think i've said they're more brute force)

The rebels' mechs are more of an assortment, most of them are built from scraps by engineers from the state's side who have defected, which gives them lower quality parts (generally) but their construction is often more careful as the engineers are able to take more time to build them (less demand because rebel mechs are less expendable)

Where do these people live?

The state's pilots live on site at whatever miltary base they're currently deployed at, but the main one is on a large mountain overlooking the capital city. The living quarters for state pilots are small and mostly barren, akin to a particularly cosy prison cell. Two beds (two pilots per cell), one desk, a window (reinforced glass rather than bars) and a side room for a bathroom/shower.

Rebel pilots have much more generous quarters. They're allowed to choose between living at a base or at their own homes, though there may be periods where they're required to live at bases in case there's an attack. Their living quarters vary a lot more, but they tend to be something like a low quality hotel, all the amenities like bathroom, shower, comfortable bed, and space for leisure.

How do they get their food?

The state gets food like any real world country would, with farms (much more commonly industrial greenhouses than actual farms, though they do exist) but the pilots are only given a nondescript nutrient sludge porridge kind of thing. I've not fully decided the details yet but it's like, just barely enough to keep them alive without starvation. It's not filling at all though, so pilots are always hungry even if they've eaten enough to survive.

Rebel forces are fed by farms generally, anything that can grow in high altitudes. They can grow stuff at lower altitudes, but it's more risky as they're based in the mountains and find it easier to grow closer to their military bases, such that they're protected. Their food is more humane, no nutrient pastes, instead having actual food made by cooks both on and off site from military bases
