Seasick Simba

During the main events of Swashbucklers of the Magic Kingdom, Simba needs to take a trip out to Neverland Island to investigate who stole his son Kopa’s legal documents. His fight choreographers, Chris Carnovo and André Caron, offer to ferry him out there their on board their old privateering vessel, the Tyrant Lizard. Unfortunately, what Simba didn’t realize is that he is violently seasick. It’s going to be a long couple hours…

Prince Leo and Ariel, Formal Wear

Fresh art from the analogue sketchbook I keep on my nightstand when I can’t (or don’t want to) sleep. I was loosely inspired by some concept art that @kobbers drew years ago for Beyond the Western Deep of Dakken in formal Lutran attire, and how that differed from the outfit that he’s wearing in the webcomic. So I decided to do the same thing for Fantasy!Leo and his mate Ariel, to show what they would wear to an important, formal gathering of the Savanna peoples (or something).

Shirts, pants, and other tailored garments aren’t really a thing that anyone on the Savanna has invented, so both Leo and Ariel wear garments that are wrapped around the body in various ways. The length of the garments signifies the formality—Leo’s normal kilt ends at knee-level, while Ariel’s normal skirt is thigh-length, but here their formal garments end either just above or just below the calf. The fabrics would be of finer weave than their normal clothes, and more richly and vibrantly dyed (sadly, I do not have the means to color the picture, so use your imagination). The Savanna is not rich in mineral resources, so ornamentation comes mainly in the form of patterned embroidery and interwoven beads; metal jewelry is considered very formal due to its rarity, and is considered feminine by the Savanna dwellers.

Ariel’s dress is really just a single large piece of red cloth draped across her body, belted in place with an embroidered girdle and held at the shoulder by a jeweled broach, which matches the pendant she wears around her neck. The metals of the broach, pendant, and her thin bracelets are all of the same type—if I had colored them in, they would all be gold.

Leo wears a beaded headband as a coronet, and wears matching beaded bracelets around his wrists. His lower-body wrap is also a richer red than his normal attire and is belted with a bright solid-colored girdle. He wears an embroidered sash across his chest, which hangs down the front of his lower body, held in place by his girdle.

A bit of fanart of @temiree’s characters Nes Irwin the kangaroo and Ryan the raccoon getting up to some…interesting shenanigans at my character Leo King the lion’s MMA gym—much to poor NES’s chagrin.

Nes finally convinced Ryan to try boxing, so while he was in town for a fight he brought Ryan along to Leo’s gym to give it a try. Unfortunately, Ryan’s not quite keen on the idea of getting punched, but neither is he about to tuck tail and run. So how does he protect himself?

Well, as only a raccoon who chugs a bottle of maple syrup on Canada Day can :)

Behind the Scenes

I’d come up with the idea this idea for this scene while back and really, really wanted to draw it, but was feeling too perfectionistic about it to actually attempt it. I wanted the picture to turn out exactly as I imagined, do justice to a couple of really fun characters, and be funny. But I reminded myself that perfection isn’t the goal—I draw art for fun, and if that means my art has room to improve, so be it. That shouldn’t stop me from trying to draw what I want now—how else will I improve and stay motivated? In the end, though, I think I did manage to capture what I was imagining, and I hope you all enjoy it too.

And @temiree, keep up the good work—you are continuously an inspiration for many character artists, and Little Runt is an entertaining comic.

1000+ Posts!

I was going to make this my actual 1000th post, but the queue has a mind of its own. Oh well.

I decided, to celebrate my 1000th post, that I would draw a self-portrait of myself and my main OC’s, since I joined this site in order to post my personal art. I love these guys as only a creator can love their creations, and I wanted to symbolize how real they feel in my head in some fitting way. I don’t have anything fully written for these guys, but they each have fairly well-developed character biographies that I hope to bring to life in story form soon.

From left to right:

Peter the Marshal, my medieval fantasy character. I hope to write a fantasy story about him someday set in a land called Heimar, but I want to work on my writing skills before I attempt to do his story justice. If you want the story concept, though, it’s “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe in Westeros.”

Chris Carnovo, my oldest OC. A swashbuckling tyrannosaur, Chris has finally found a home in my fanfiction/learn-to-write-a-story project, Swashbucklers of the Magic Kingdom. Chris is the fight choreographer behind all the Disney movies we know and love, but his fencing skills often come in useful whoever his friends find themselves in need—and in the wild world of the Magic Kingdom, many a Disney character finds themself in need of a good-hearted swordsman to help them out of some dastardly villain’s mess…

Leo King, an MMA fighter who loves his family and dreams of becoming “King of the Octagon.” His story concept is basically “Rocky with MMA and Anthropomorphic Animals.”
