Amuro Tooru’s morning shifts at Cafe Poirot are usually peaceful enough to be called a holiday, by Furuya Rei’s standard. No rest for Bourbon, though. After Rum’s message for him yesterday, Bourbon was expected to be on full alert for his new mission. This kind of thing was usually followed by his absence on this part-time job as a waiter the following day, if not for the fact that Mouri Detective Agency above the cafe being the perfect place to dig scraps of information about the elusive Kudo Shinichi.
Rei cracked a smile as he scrubbed the fifth table near the window. As expected from Conan, the bugs he planted yesterday seemed to be no longer functional, since he could only hear silence from his earpiece. As it was, he could still eavesdrop on some interesting conversations until last night. Rei wasn’t one for gossiping about his (technically) neighbors of course, but he would be lying if he didn’t relish on juicy gossips. As in gossips about how Conan-kun pretended not to skip school yesterday, Ran-san’s forgotten groceries, Mouri-san’s secret fawning over his wife’s photo instead of Okino Yoko, Ran-san’s new boyfriend...
That last one is particularly juicy for Rei’s taste, considering the identity of said boyfriend.
Despite what the Organization might think, Kudo Shinichi wasn’t so dead, huh? What should he do with this information?
He already knew for sure that Kudo family was involved in hiding Akai Shuichi’s continued survival behind those mansion walls. To find out that their only son was eliminated for snooping into Organization’s business was one thing, but to get a confirmation he actually survived was—
The sound of jingling bell from the front entrance snapped him out of his thoughts.
Rei—no, Amuro pasted an automatic smile on his face, “Welcome to Cafe Poirot! May I take your o...” as he took in the appearance of the first customer, his smile widened a fraction. This situation felt familiar.
Across from him, Edogawa Conan stared into the depth of his eyes, oversized glasses gleaming with intent.
“Conan-kun, can I help you with something?”
If Rei played his cards right, he would surely get what he wants.
