Where are the rest of the cast announcements

The way this casting announcement is presented makes me feel like Role Model and TLG will be adapted in tandem with Role Model being quite extensively included.

This makes me wonder about the balance of the plot. RM takes place fully in Ottawa and is intertwined with Ilya's story, so I feel like Shane will be very isolated in S2 and getting more marginal screen time (basically only when he's with Ilya) which kind of sucks.

I don't know if I have much to say about the casting. I was rooting for unknowns and neither Justice, nor Charlie are that. But that doesn't make it a bad choice necessarily.

I do wonder why they cast an American, very skinny, 30-year old actor for the role of a very Canadian character who is supposed to be stocky and only around 25 years old. Changing Harris' race doesn't bother me, but I do wonder if it's mostly just "aesthetic" or will anything actually change in Harris story to make it more lived-in poc experience. I guess the actor being openly queer is fitting for Harris and may have been the biggest factor. (or it could be another Scott situation).

Also, it does feel like JT has a strong opinion that intimate scenes have to be played by hot people in the traditional sense, leading to chub-erasure. Ofc, given the fatphobia in the queer community, it's a bit sad, but also I'm not sure if this fandom is ready to an actual pudgy actor to be shown naked, when in the past weeks we've seen so many vicious fat-shaming comments directed at Hudson who honestly looks extremely fit.

Btw, since everyone is commenting the Harris casting, I have to say I'm also not feeling Troy based on this picture, but pictures can lie. In the end, we will have to wait for the pudding. Anyways, as someone who was super-excited about RM and Troy/Harris, I'm not feeling this so much - not necessarily because of casting choices - but mostly because I'm really worried about Shane getting sidelined in S2, which I would hate.

Meet Ned Roper and his family!

Some very exciting news just reaching us - Jamie is going to be stepping onto the famous Albert Square this Summer as he joins BBC EastEnders as part of the new Hawkins family! 💙

He has been cast alongside Patricia Potter (Holby City), who will play his wife Gemma Hawkins, who is the sister of established character, Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington). They will be joined by Marian McLoughlin (Trying) who will play Gemma's mum, Rose, Felix Uff (Amadeus) as their son, Ryder Hawkins and Anna Constable (Imposter 22) as Gemma's younger sister, Jodie Hawkins.

Jamie has been quoted as saying;

“When 12-year-old me rushed home from school in 1985 to catch the very first episode of EastEnders, I could never have dreamed that one day I’d be walking onto the iconic Albert Square as a character myself. It’s a privilege I don’t take lightly, and I’m thrilled to be making my mark on this crown jewel of my beloved BBC”.

We are so excited to see what this new role in such an iconic show will bring! 💙
