She's frantically trying to find something that'll help put out the fire she might've accidentally started. All she wanted to do was impress the other with her laser eyes! Not have this happen!

Irene is quiet for a moment, as if racking her brain. But she knew. She knew. Something within her almost felt guilty for admitting the truth, but since when has she had this much trouble with revealing the sad truth to people? Ripping off the bandaid was always the hard part, wasn’t it? It had to be done, either way, and so she clears her throat and folds her hands politely in her lap.

“I was,” she states evenly, calmly. And then, in a moment to attempt to console Eliza: “Is there anything you’d like to know? I know grief is complex, but if I can help offer you some closure, I’d be happy to do so.”
