An Update for 3banana on iPad

We've rolled out a few improvements for 3banana on iPad. Here's a list of what's included in the latest update:

Map preview and location name appear in the location button for geotagged notes.

The size and position of the map popover for location notes has been improved.

Images can be removed from notes.

Whitespace in notes is preserved and displayed as expected.

Notes containing IMG tags are now formatted to display correctly.

A thumbnail for your newly added image appears much more quickly.

Image data is less likely to be lost if the application quits during image processing.

Fixed aspect ratio for images when rotating the device.

There's a small, but great!, update available for Catch Notes on iOS. What's new:

New tag selector. Choose from previously used tags with one, easy click.

Zoom in and out of images

Passcode protection. Set a 4 digit passcode to protect your app from unwanted eyes.

Keep Track of Your Holiday Shopping with Catch

If you're one of the millions of brave people planning to partake in Black Friday, you can use Catch to make the day a little easier. And while you're at it, why don't you just plan all your holiday shopping with Catch? Nicole Cozma over at PhoneDog has listed Catch for Android as one of her "5 Android Apps for Holiday Shopping".

This note-taking app is great for keeping track of your holiday gift ideas. If you see a gift your loved one may enjoy, take a picture and tag it (i.e. #gifts) in Catch for later reference. As you find other gift ideas, tag them the same. Then just pull up “gifts” from the tag menu and easily compare them all in one place. Catch even allows you to set a pincode so no one can peek at what you might be buying them!

Using Catch for Fitness

A very important area of focus for Catch — from the start — is working to turn iPhones/iPads, Android phones/tablets (and web browsers too!) into personal support systems for people with health challenges and goals. Catch, by design, hopes to help people do many of the things healthcare experts say are essential to high achievement: staying on course, becoming better informed, keeping a journal about how things are going, stepping back to look for patterns and trends. These capabilities are a direct outgrowth of co-founder A hash-tag (#) in front of any word or wordstring — #drsmith, #newdosage, #5k #gluten — creates a “tag” that allows related entries to be recalled, grouped, sorted, and considered.

Because it becomes so easy to use, many users say Catch actually improves their ability to notice and organize. Somehow, thinking with the Catch app in hand and mind, your “prepared mind” gets better noticing and integrating the important people and ideas you come across as you move through the world and across the web.

Share with the Team

Experts say support groups are an important ingredient for accomplishing goals. With Catch you can easily share your notes via email to friends, family, caregivers. Catch Notes for iOS: a better experience

We met with Catch iOS expert Jeff Meininger last week about the Catch iOS 4 Upgrade for iPhone and iPad released yesterday.

Jeff noted that the release was being timed to stay current with the majority of people who have now migrated to Apple's iOS 4.

The adjectives we heard most were what anyone would expect with a major upgrade — smoother, faster, nicer, more elegant, more graceful and reduced flakiness. (Evidently, reduced flakiness is a specific technical term used by top app developers to describe a general sense of unease while things seem perfectly fine to the rest of us. That's because developers live in the depths while we just wade in the shallows.)

When pressed for specifics about flakiness, Jeff did something very cool: with thumbs a'blazing, he offered side by side comparison with Catch 3.0 in one hand, 4.0 in the other. Here are the highlights of what Jeff showed us:

"For instance, the thumbnails. Version 3, OK. Version 4, bigger, clearer thumbnails, see how they expand in landscape view. Higher quality pictures in notes view, too."

"Before when you synced notes (received your updated notes from Catch servers, provided you have registered your account), sometimes the change was a bit abrupt. Now the syncing is much more elegant."

"Autosave."

"Much easier, faster, better voice note and picture note command. See?"

"Conflict resolution...Sometimes there are two versions of the same note. It doesn't happen very often, but sometimes it does. Now we can present the conflicting notes and you can choose the right one."

"Improved keyboard feedback."

"A better hashtag picker" (for easily embedding tags in your notes so you can sort, orgnize and review them as topical streams.)

We've been busy, and listening to feedback from you about the recent Catch 4.5 release. This week updates have been added to Catch for Android and iOS, in addition to the Catch Notes web interface at Catch.com.

Facebook sign-in (not sharing) is now available on our mobile clients to make account creation and free note back-up easier and faster. Every day, we receive email from mobile users who have lost or damaged their devices and have lost all of their notes. Free note back-up is as easy as signing in with either a Catch, Google, and now Facebook account.

Android

Tags and All Notes have returned to the dashboard. There is one-click access to both.

You can also pin tags to your homescreen for even faster access to tags.

iPhone and iPad

Catch Notes is now in Japanese!

Facebook sign-on (not sharing!) has been added to make account creation and free note back-up easier and faster.

On fresh app installs for new users only, the notes filter bar (to filter by tags, starred notes, and so on) is open by default.

When the notes filter bar is hidden (closed), the items selected (tags, starred notes, and so on) are cleared automatically.

Web interface (Catch.com)

Note filtering has been simplified and we've brought back the option to sort notes by creation date as well as by date modified.

CSV export is back! Click your username in the top right and select Profile Settings to export all of your notes.

Easily upgrade directly from the web interface.

Tag counts are back!

Date counts are available.

Notes show which stream they're in.

In the Streams Overview (in All Notes and Home) you can now reorder your streams in the top navigation, in addition to renaming, deleting and managing stream invitations and membership.

Happy New Year from Catch

It was a great year!

For us the year began at the end of 2011, with the launch of spaces (initially called "streams"). From a collection of single private notes, Catch blossomed into a tool for gathering inspiration and sharing it among a group of contributors.

Then in August Catch came alive with color, added checklists and made it easier than ever to capture ideas whenever and wherever they strike. The year ended on a high note when Catch was named one of 2012's best productivity apps.

All of this was made possible by you, the people who use Catch to track and manage life's insights. Thank you for your support and your enthusiasm. To those of you who have been with Catch since the beginning in 2010, we appreciate your loyalty. And if you're new to Catch, welcome!
