trauma science is still brand new, the consciousness raising groups that provided the data and momentum necessary to lift it into the public eye only started happening in the seventies, that’s not even a generation ago, of course the culture hasn’t absorbed it, of course most people haven’t heard of the most basic tenets of what trauma is and how it works and how it permeates and shapes a brain and a family and a culture, you have access to it but your mother barely had access to it and your grandmother absolutely did not, we’re still in the initial stages of society grappling with the emergence of an entire field of study dedicated to tracking and examining human damage, which is not to excuse how long it is taking everyone to catch up because so much depends on it and it needs to have happened yesterday.
