PLEASE DO THE MERRILL THING FOR PERCY
1. How did your Hawke react to Merrill’s use of blood magic? Were they shocked? Pleased?
He was honestly shocked at first. Percy grew up with his dad trying to teach him that he didn’t need it, mostly out of necessity, somewhat out of guilt and to make up for what he did for the Wardens. While Percy doesn’t fear magic and supports freedom for mages, he starts out critical of blood magic. Merrill made him understand it more.Â
2. Was your Hawke intrigued by Merrill’s Eluvian? Were they concerned?
Once he got to know and trust Merrill, he was very curious about it. He’s an academic at heart, and learning the secrets of lost knowledge appealed to him. If he didn’t know her as well, the use of blood magic to repair it would have concerned him more. But as it stands, he supported her attempts to fix it.
3. Did your Hawke understand Merrill’s attachment to her clan? Were they confused by her dedication to her clanmates?
He wished he had the same connection to his race as she did. He never fit in among elves or humans, so seeing her so deeply invested in her people almost made him jealous. He understood it, though, when he compared it to how attached he felt to his family. Merrill’s clan turning on her made him all the more angry because of her love for them.
4. What sort of relationship did your Hawke have with Merrill? Were they protective of her?
They spent quite awhile being distant acquaintances, but grew closer as time went on. Percy was never her best friend, nor she his, but they cared for each other. Really, though, she might have felt more protective of him than he did of her.
5. Did your Hawke remain close to Merrill after the end of Act III? Did their choice between the mages or templars affect their relationship?
They actually became better friends after DA2. His dedication to the mages’ cause motivated her, and they’ve kept in touch ever since. Merrill is likely one of few people who knows where Percy is now, possibly one of those who passed his location to Varric.
