Ellinor hasn’t been in the Inquisition for long, but it’s long enough to know that Inquisitor Lavellan’s looks are deceiving. Calliope is of shorter stature—like any elf—and unassuming, lithe, careful.
So the first time she sees them in the sparring ring with Bull, she’s shocked to see their weapon—no, weapons plural—of choice. For one, she’s never seen a anyone wield an axe so large, nor has she ever seen a flail used anywhere other than the novels she’d read as a child. Certainly not in real life.
The axe is nearly as large as the one Bull carries, but seeing Callie haul both weapons into the ring seems of little concern to the Qunari. Ellinor lingers in the courtyard, both curious and wary of coming off as ogling, but she can’t help it. It is hard to look away.
“Care to join us, Trevelyan?” Bull calls to her, a teasing twinkle in his eye.
She can feel herself blushing. She’s well aware of the relationship between the Inquisitor and Bull—and Dorian, for that matter—and though she and Callie have exchanged flirty banter and lingering glances on more than one occasion, she doesn’t want to overstep. Or worse, find that she’s been misreading their signals. So she shakes her head quickly, and Bull chuckles.
“Suit yourself, then.”
Callie looks back at her a smiles, taking the time to pull their hair out of their face and tie it back carefully. Again, as always, their gaze lingers just long enough to send a shiver down Ellinor’s spine, and she swallows as they lift their axe with awe-inspiring ease, flexing their muscles as they circle the ring opposite Bull.
“Ready?” they ask him.
“The question is whether you’re ready, kadan.”
“Always.”
They begin their spar. Bull is all weight and reaving and heavy blows, stopping just short of making actual contact with Callie twice. But Callie is a whirlwind with their weapons—a force all their own. Although Bull gets a couple of hits in, Callie makes plenty of contact too, relentless and forceful and tearing through the ring with axe and flail alike. More than once Ellinor finds herself holding her breath, unable to look away while the two spar.
It’s only when Callie lands their flail in Bulls side—caught, thankfully, by the hefty belt of his armor, though the hit will surely leave a bruise later—that the Qunari waives his hand. “All right, all right. You win this time. Show-off.” He smirks at Ellinor after saying it, and his words ring in her ears.
Show-off.
Callie smiles at her again, now that they’re finished, dropping the flail and axe to the ground casually and stretching their arms overhead as though they’d merely gone for a nice stroll around the keep, not an entire match with the Iron Bull.
Ellinor knows she’s staring. She can’t help it.
“Like what you see?” Callie asks her, approaching the side of the ring where she stands. They drape their arms over the low wooden fencing of the ring lazily, looking at her with their piercing green eyes.
She reddens. “I, um—yeah.”
“Just kiss her already!” Bull yells from across the ring, and Callie grins.
“May I?”
She looks into their eyes again, almost breathless. “Absolutely.”
They lean in with a surprising gentleness and grace, after what she’d just witnessed in the sparring ring, and she kisses them back with an enthusiasm she hadn’t realized she’d been holding back this whole time.
“Thanks,” they say when they pull away, and she almost laughs.
“Thank you.”
“I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”
Sorry BioWare, but 5 seconds of Solas and Calli dancing isn’t going to cut it for me, so. Here is page 1/3 of a little supplemental material, as well as her getting to wear the dress she deserved.
I’m erasing myself from the narrative Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted when you broke her heart

From Calliope to Dimitri- “Lethallin, I hope this finds you well. I know things have been hard at times but I know you’ll get through this. You’re stronger and more cunning than you think. I know it gets a bit cold where you are and I can’t help but think perhaps you’re a little lonely, given the situation. I’ve sent a little gift that my brother and I wove just for you. Dareth shiral, C. In the package he’d get a huge blanket with a beautiful mural woven into it. Good for cuddling
Dimitri would read the letter over several times before turning back to examining the large woven blanket, touching the soft and warm fabric. He noted the mural, running his fingers over the soft images and swirling patterns, perfect for tracing while thinking. He could tell it was made with care and the thought of Calliope and their brother weaving it for him made him smile.
He made a quick mental note to send a gift back along with a lovely thank you for such kindness, but that was for later when the wonderful blanket waited to be shared with Daniel.
