Margery Eagan to Boston Globe
Margery Eagan to Boston Globe
Boston Herald columnist Margery Eagan is taking her talents crosstown to the Boston Globe’s Catholic website, according to Two-Daily Town sources. She’ll join the vertical the Globe established for John L. Allen Jr., former correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter.
The feisty local tabloid will be significantly less feisty without Eagan, who’s never been shy about weighing in on all…

Lent and shiz
So it's Ash Weds. The beginning of Lent.
I'm not what you would call a practicing Catholic. I'm not really what you would call a non-practicing Catholic. I was baptized and I pray to St. Anthony like it's my damn job because I would lose my own head if it were not attached.
But I always observe Lent.
Maybe because it makes my mom happy. Maybe because I like a challenge. Maybe because I get to eat mac & cheese every Friday for over a month. Who knows. But I act like a good little Catholic girl for 40 days and 40 nights every year.
This year I really thought about what to give up. I usually half ass it and give up something that I like, but know I can totally do without. This year though...this year I upped the ante.
No dining out.
No food that I did not buy at the store or cook for myself for a whole 40 days. No running down to the cafeteria at lunch because I was too lazy to take 10 minutes to pack my lunch. No Frisch's for dinner because I don't feel like cooking. No excuses. No restaurants.
I figure this will be wallet friendly and help in my quest to not be a fat ass. Plus, it's the first time in a long time I've given something up that will be an ACTUAL challenge. So, can I do it? We'll see. I'm pretty damn obstinate, so I'm thinking I got this shit.
Are you giving anything up?
