He used to be my best friend and now he only texts me when he wants money or when he needs more information to push forward the divorce. He was my best friend and partner. I married him and he started putting holes in walls, breaking my things, throwing stuff at my head, hurting himself in front of me, threatening me with his guns or when he was driving the car with us both in it, and so much more. I loved him so much, I couldn’t understand why he was doing such things.
I entered into marriage fully intending to spend the rest of my life with him, and now when he realized that he wouldn’t get what he wanted out of me, he threw me aside and completely abandoned our marriage. We’re Catholic. Divorce isn’t supposed to happen for people like us.
How will I ever find a Catholic man that would be willing to marry a divorced, disabled, and sterile woman? How will I ever find someone that matches my faith and life ideals that would be willing to never have or raise children, and would be willing to fully support me since I can’t support myself?
I know God is good, and if He has chosen not to answer my prayers for reconciliation then there is a good and just reason, but after half a decade I’m back exactly where I began, having to completely rebuild while being significantly sicker than before.
Tried to go to a support group held by my parish, but everyone is significantly older than me, their marriages had lasted longer than mine, and they had all had children. I felt like such an outsider. How dare I be 24 and my marriage already have failed! I couldn’t make myself go back after the first session.
I’m worried I will be a burden upon my mother for the rest of her life now that I have no husband to provide for me. My dad already has dementia that’s can progressing more and more, and they’re both in their early 60s. I’ve been living with them again for a year now, and while my mom talks about me finishing my education and getting a full time job and moving out again, I think we both know that the likelihood of that actually happening is slim.
And the really unfortunate part? I’ve realized over the years that my calling is to stay at home and tend to my family and my home, but without financial support and a husband to provide things, there is no chance I can live that life style.
It is the only time I’ve truly felt fulfilled in work, and I have lost the opportunity for the known future.
I feel so empty when thinking about the future. I try so hard to trust in God and believe that everything will be ok and that He will provide everything I need, but sometimes it really feels like I exist only to suffer. I can’t even become a nun because they don’t accept women who are this chronically ill and requiring so much care.
I exist only to suffer and burden others with my disabilities and sickly disposition. And, I suppose, to also love the dogs that come into my care and show them what warm, safe, unconditional love looks like from a mother. My little dogs are truly the only continuous light in my life, outside of my faith of course. At least my husband doesn’t want to take Ken from me; I don’t think I’d survive all this being separated from my little dog.
I’m just so tired and exhausted with life.
