Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, near Silver City, New Mexico.

Nomadic people used caves above the Gila River for temporary shelter for thousands of years. Then around 800 years ago, Mogollon People constructed complex masonry and timber shelters in the caves. Between ten and fifteen families lived in the cliff dwellings, which were only occupied for about twenty years before they were abandoned and the people moved on.
