I know a lot about the army of Kronos.

People don't know that — or at least I hope they don't. Because I lied.

See, I was not a good person. I switched sides and joined the 'good side', but I wasn't good, not by a long shot. I still don't think I'm good now, though Clarisse would probably argue with me on that, and had she been still alive, Silena would argue my case too for giving her the benefit of the doubt even when she lied. Perhaps even Luke would argue too…

Chris' pen stilled on the paper. He looked at Clarrisse, his fiance, the girl who saw the good in him, asleep next to him.

She sighed. He took a deep breath and continued writing.

What I am is loyal. Loyal to my family anyway, and I'm not like Connor, who believes family is family and you can't cut them out even when they don't care about you enough to claim you. I personally think that's a stupid, naive mentality that I didn't expect from him. Considering the state I heard he and Trav were in when they got to 'Half Blood you'd think he'd be a little more hateful.

As far as I was concerned, Luke was the only living family I got on the godly side. Now he's dead.

He was my big brother — still is even after he's gone, and I'm still his little brother as far as Silena told me before she promised she was leaving the army for good for Clarisse. What a lie the leaving part was, but I don't hold it against her; we're both liars.

Luke and I were —are close. Even before I got claimed and we knew we were brothers by blood, I was his little brother. I knew a lot about his army, even more about him.

Chris's pen stilled again. As if wondering whether he should fully admit it. This was a dangerous thing to put out. It could ruin everything he — Clarisse worked so hard to build.

He continued writing a second later, nonetheless.

I knew the spies, the commanders, and the generals. I knew who defected and who died on the way to defecting. I knew who we were getting the money from, what gods were on our side (Hekate, Nemesis, Hebe, Morpheus, Janus, Melinoe), and which ones could potentially be shaken (Angelia, Hermaphroditus, Zagreus, Charon, Angelos, Khione, Momus, Eos).

But I also know Luke. I know his favorite food. I know who he had a crush on (Thalia Grace and Lee Fletcher) . I know that his favorite type of music is shitty punk rock by bands nobody has heard about. I know that he has really bad road rage (that's why we traveled by boat; the van lasted one week.) and….

Chris' pen stilled for a beat of a second.

…I know about his mom.

….

He's my brother. No matter what I wasn't going to sell him out. Not my big brother. So I lied.

When Chiron and Mr D showed up at my bedside and asked me "What do you know about Luke Castellan's plans?" I lied.

I lied and said I was not privy to things like spies and tactics, I was just a pawn. I pretended I didn't even know Alabaster Torrington's last name. I spun them so many tales of Luke’s cruelty maybe even Hermes for once would be proud of me (I'm protecting his golden son. There’s no maybe in that assumption)

Maybe that lie had cost lives. Maybe I'm evil, and no one should have forgiven me. Especially not Clarisse.

Gods, I'm not even sure why I'm writing this. It could literally wreck my life if it comes out, or it could wreck Clarisse's life, as it's ours now — or will be. Maybe I really am evil for that.

We're getting married in May. Her track record of being best friends with the spy, dating a former traitor and refusing to fight in the final battle until the spy perished in flames of glory (you were always dramatic, Lena) already isn't doing her any favors. Plus her personality is an acquired taste. The campers would turn on her real quick if this came out.

I just need somewhere to admit it. I always write stuff down. Hermes is the god of writing, but I hope this comes from me, not him. He doesn't deserve to have a trace of him in me. He didn't claim me until I was mad, and don't claim him now because I am still mad, and I don't think he has the right to be mad at me because he'd do the same.

And honestly, I believe he did do the same. The favored son of the god of thieves stole the master bolt without getting caught for a few weeks? I love my brother, but he wasn't that good at what he did.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not sorry, not to the gods or the rest of camp. I'm sorry to Clarisse, because this is the type of thing that probably gets you sent to the fields of punishment rather than Elysium.

Chris put the pen down and folded up the paper, quietly getting up out of bed. Clarisse stirred next to him, rolling over to grab his arm tightly. She was still stronger than him even half asleep. He liked that about her.

"Go back to sleep," Chris whispered. He put the paper into a box, one with a lock that no other Hermes kid could crack: a trick Luke taught him.

No one will ever know.
