Sup? I know i haven't made an original pjo post in ... a while. But i just remembered this and i NEED more opinions on it.
Can we talk about the TLT scorpion scene for a moment?
And no, i don't mean we need to talk about Luke trying to kill Percy off just like that with zero visible remorse. I mean the fact that Luke summoned an Underworld Scorpion just. Like. That.
I haven't read the pjo books in a long time but i don't think Luke's Hermes originated powers are mentioned very often... Mostly Luke himself talks about flying shoes and picking locks and that's it, if i remember correctly.
So ummm Im going to go on a big Stretch here, but bear with me and then bring your contributions to the table (please).
Locks.... Picking locks means you open doors. You create a gateway. And i don't know about you but i think that's a pretty dope superpower. A power Luke might have used in more ways than just alohomora-ing regular front-doors and safes. You see what Im getting at? Creating gateways... Hermes... Luke... Underworld Scorpion. Please tell me you're getting it.
HERMES. Jack of all trades yeyeye all that shenanigan. Guide to lost souls. Hermes Psychopompos takes souls to the Styx, sometimes across it! He has his ways of getting into the Underworld, Hermes has ties to the Underworld. Who's to say Luke doesn't have those?
What if Luke's lockpicking is a weaker manifestation of his true power to get across the worlds of living and dead and open ways for entities on both sides too. It wouldn't be hard for Kronos to pick up on THAT and help Luke grow that ability to the point where he can instantly summon a fricking extra deadly monstruous scorpion with a snap of his fingers.
... Or maybe even to the point where he can slip into the Underworld unnoticed to.... Pfff IDK bathe in the Styx? Run little errands for Kronos? Steal the Helm of Darkness???
Idk, maybe this is utter bullshit and all demigods can learn to summon monsters just like all demigods can control the Mist if they get the proper training.
But Luke Castellan, Son of Hermes Psychopompos has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
And don't get me started on the implications this has on other canon stuff...
Suddenly May's failure with the Spirit of Delphi isn't just "oh it wasn't meant to be like it was with Rachel". Maybe it's a punishment from Hades beyond the curse put on the Oracle. Because I'm sure Hades wouldn't want an Underworld tied deity having kids with the ability to slip in and out of the Underworld at their will, out of his and his subortinates' control... Since he can't outright attack Hermes, he goes for the mistress with something that he's already done and that he can hide behind (the curse on Delphi), hoping the baby would die in his childhood with a half lucid mother or would never get to tap into his gate opening potential.
Any thoughts?
