Unbelievable. Near watches Gevanni fumble with the car. He unbuckles his seat belt only to be more comfortable; Near has no plans to leave the quiet of the car for the obnoxiously loud city outside unless forced. He grimaces, glancing out the window. This car isn’t old. This is ridiculous.
“What’s wrong with it?” For once, Near found himself hopeful that this was somehow the fault of a stupid error Gevanni had uncharacteristically made. The car was out of gas, maybe, and he would need to walk down the block to get more. Near shifts, trying to peer onto the dashboard. “Stephen, if we miss our flight, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow.”
