She was warned not to touch the crystals in the underwater cave, no matter how beautiful they were. She was warned, but she didn't listen. Now, she stands as an eternal reminder to other curious visitors to the cave, just what happens when you ignore the warnings, and touch the crystals. -⚡ Flash ⚡

(Side note. Stuff like this is actually one of my biggest fears: being trapped inside yourself, fully conscious, but unable to move. I hate it, but I can't stop making characters like that.)

UL Records Spotlight: Cave Giants

Overview

Cave giants are one of the smaller species of giants in comparison to their fabled counterparts, though contrary to common assumption, they are actually not part of the giant family and have only been given this name due to their size.

While other giants are mammalian, the cave giant is closer to a reptile in physiology with their scales, molting, their inner bone structure, two three-chambered hearts, and their bifurcated jaw structure. Though unlike the common reptile, they are warm-blooded.

Their feathers serve to sense the tiniest vibrations through the air, or to inform them more of their surroundings. Each feather can be bristled individually, and can convey emotion subconsciously.

The cave giant is known to have the longest lifespan of all giants, being able to live up to 300-400 years on average.

They have bioluminescent patterns ranging in blues, purples, whites, and reds. Each pattern is unique to the individual and they can be identified through this. The bioluminescent traits can be suppressed at will.

They do not come to the surface very often during their lifetime and hence are very sensitive to light.

With their lack of vision, their sense of smell and hearing is amplified. They are able to echolocate using clicking sounds through dark cave systems. The slightest movement or breath will instantly alert them.

They have a “reptile brain”, meaning they behave primarily on instinct.

Though they are capable of speech, they don’t normally communicate with each other verbally. Their dialect is heard in a series of clicks and chirps. They can quickly learn other dialects as well through observation, but they don’t tend to be talkative even then.

They are solitary creatures. They know few benefits from companionship and are not loyal to the few who seek their company.

They can possibly be bribed into friendship through their curiosity, or bribing them through feeding them. However, beginning to create the association between oneself and food normally doesn’t end well.

They are able to unhinge their split jaw to swallow larger prey.

Their metabolism is very slow and it can take weeks to digest their prey, or store it during droughts. Since there are few food sources around, they tend to preserve prey and their energy as long as they can afford.

They are capable of hibernating in order to conserve energy when food sources are scarce. They can sleep for years at a time, even decades.

In order to travel through tighter cave passages, they have incredible contortionist abilities, able to bend and twist their bodies with unparalleled flexibility.

As to be expected of their name, cave giants dwell primarily in cave systems, though they have also adapted to live in underground tunnels, abandoned subway tracks, and sewers for an easier access of prey. Cave giants nearer to cities live longer and hibernate for much shorter periods of time.

They have long, thin claws that can impale stone and cement with ease, making them excellent climbers and even better combatants.

They have an excellent memory and use this for their navigational skills through the dark.

The official UL classification for this breed is Moderately Dangerous and has a 2.5/5 on the threat scale that determines their hunts.
