Nova is, on the outside, a spunky, energetic, and curious (pony?). She's very prone to anxiety-driven overthinking, and often talks to herself while she does so.
Be it neurodivergence, or simply being half-god-of-chaos (probably both), Nova is unpredictable even to herself. Her magic, and her mind, often go places she isn't prepared for. With spells being cast unintentionally when her mood goes too far one direction, and low-self-esteem leaving her feeling even more out-of-place than she already was- she's quite the mess.
All this aside, Nova is, by nature, loving. She always wants to help other creatures, and show them that even the most different of species can coexist, be friends, find love- you name it! The world is possibilities, and while a good chunk of them are morbid and horrifying, it's mostly full of positives.
On the opposite end of this, often, despite her best efforts, she can have a fiery temper when you really tick her off. She's definitely inherited both her parents' sass, and it shows as her struggles wear down on her usual joyful demeanor.
Nova also has very low self-esteem, and is very insecure about her appearance, but tries to hide it so as not to burden others.
🌌-Backstory-🌌
Nova is the daughter of Fluttershy and Discord. To avoid thinking about the logic of the obvious, I created an explanation for why hybrids exist in Equestria- Mimic eggs!
Mimic eggs are rare infertile eggs that have a chance of appearing among an egg-laying creature's clutch. Excluding any creatures of the species it came from, the first two male and female beings of two different species to touch it, will have a sample of their magic and DNA absorbed into the egg, resulting in a hybrid.
Fluttershy finds one of these eggs (in her chicken coop, probably), picks it up, and is immediately concerned as a pattern appears on it that resembles one of the butterflies on her cutiemark.
(Insert scenario where Discord ends up picking it up to look at it, resulting in another pattern, plus a third that fills the middle.)
They're both clueless as to what's going on, so they take it to Twilight or Sunburst for help, and after some research, they discover that "Welp, congrats, you two. You've accidentally created a hybrid child."
Naturally, they (mostly Discord) start panicking.
So they have a little heart-to-heart, and Fluttershy reassures him that he is, in fact, a good candidate for parenting. He doesn't need to know everything, because nopony ever does, and he'll have her to help him along the way. Team effort!
And even if there may come a day where he has to go it alone, she knows he'll do wonderfully.
This is where the story gets a bit wonky, because THANKS TO G5 NOT BEING ABLE TO DECIDE WHAT'S CANON OR NOT- I don't know what event triggers the next plotpoint! :D
So a few years down the road, Nova is still baby sized. THE BIG BAD happens, and racism becomes a thing. Going based off of the movie's explanation of "there was a war", I'ma say things got really dangerous.
Fluttershy's not willing to side with the Pegasi to help hurt others, so now she's not safe anywhere in Equestria. Discord decides that since Twilight's taking magic out of Equestria, and that will render him unable to defend his family if the time comes, the best option is to take his family to the chaos realm and wait out the danger. However long that may be.
That... doesn't happen anytime soon.
Years and years pass, and now Nova is a toddler. Despite his best efforts, Fluttershy, whose lifespan has already been extended by being in the Chaos Realm's weirdness, grows ill with something Discord can't cure.
She eventually passes, and Discord is, understandably, shattered. He's left alone to raise Nova.
300 years pass- (this is a very rough estimate, based off of Elderflower's comment in Make Your Mark on how many generations removed she is from Moondancer), and Nova is now roughly a bit younger than the Mane 5 in Draconequus years. Discord has made sure to give her the best upbringing possible, taking her all over outside of Equestria, and teaching her all the lessons her mother would have. They're both silly, so life is as well. Nova grows up knowing love, and hearing stories of how friendship and compassion have beaten even the toughest of odds.
At last, thanks to Sunny and her friends, magic is restored to Equestria. Nova finally gets to see her mother's home.
She arrives in Maretime Bay, where her presence is quickly greeted by extreme panic from the townsponies, as they're only just getting over being naturally wary of even the smallest of differences between them (Wings, horns, lackthereof, etc). and have NO idea what she is.
Nova being Discord's daughter, she does have chaos magic, but the only issue is that she doesn't know how to do much with it, like fly with her mismatched wings, or teleport with ease like her father. This leads to a lot of small accidental fires when frightened or stressed, which really doesn't help her first impression much.
When the chaos goes from entertaining to dangerous as townsponies turn on a defenseless Nova- Discord, having been watching the whole time, pops in, standing over her protectively and roaring like a high-strung mother bear, causing everyone to move a healthy distance away.
He may be practically invulnerable with his magic, but he has no intention of finding out if the same can be said for his daughter.
The mane five make their way to the front of the crowd, Discord relaxes some, knowing crisis control has arrived.
(Note: To explain Hitch's random animal communication abilities, I've decided he's a descendant of Zephyr Breeze, Fluttershy's younger brother. This makes Hitch and Nova cousins.)
After an introduction, and explanation from Discord, the Mane 5 tell everypony to calm the heck down, because the primordial being and his similarly mythological daughter (who was not around in g4 long enough to be mentioned much in history books) mean them no harm.
The only issue now is- Despite being allowed to go where she pleases- what with Nova's strange appearance, and unwanted knack for causing magical accidents- a lot of the townsponies see her as a villain, similar to stories of Discord's past, or an unpredictable monster that their over-accepting leaders are letting roam the streets.
Nova's left with a feeling like she can't do anything right. Despite having friends in the Mane 5, she's alienated in what's supposed to be her own home. She struggles to win them over, only to be met with more hatred and hurtful comments. How is she supposed to help Equestria grow if nopony likes or trusts her? How is she supposed to teach them to love each other, if she's now having trouble loving herself?

Casual Arson - Causes random small fires when spooked
Fruit Ninja - Is able to summon any size fruit, but she cannot always summon the one she intends.
Glide - Her wings won't lift her into the air, but she can make like a helicopter seed and try to land safely, at least.
Doodle - She can draw things in the air with magic
