Ceanothus Silkmoth

Hyalophora euryalus

From the saturniidae family. They have a wingspan of 89-127 mm. It tends to occupy dry and warm habitats. They can be found in most of North America, as far down as Mexico.

I swear I will start posting things that have actually gone through their final firings soon, but here’s another wip for the books.  Found this really cool shop on Etsy that has all sorts of super adorable and wonderful ceramics, and my mind was blown by moth sculptures you could hang on the wall.  So decided to give one a try and first painting attempt was of a Ceanothus silkmoth.

Not quite the right shade of red, but really excited to see how this fellow comes out, and was my first time in literally forever using an underglaze pencil for the detailing.  Used nichrome wire for some not as floofy antennae ʚїɞ

@ghost-time04 submitted: i accidentally sent this through an ask instead of a submission the first time my apologies !! anyway - here is a Very nice moth with a nike checkmark. we found them in calistoga (CA), what do you suppose they might be?

That sure is a Nike swoosh, they must be an athlete. It's a Ceanothus silkmoth!
