GHJGJHHJ OH THAT WAS IT ESSENTIALLY Utena was both down to fight the lettuce man and entirely unaware of what the consequences of her actions could be. No one else factored in; she just wanted to get him away from her, and ended up killing him. Utena did not see it coming at all, blood from the mouth or not. I could, seeing it from Utena's pov, but she could not (funny how dreams work). He died and she was just like "huh??? what??" The fighty dumbass lesbian rep we deserve!
LMAO I VIBE WITH THIS. One of the parts of the show that stuck with me the most is when Akio brings up in the finale like “you guys have been fake dueling this whole time, REAL dueling is to the death” and utena is like “oh fuck...........” and you, as the viewer, have up until now been socialized in this system of relatively civil decorum regarding wins/losses/forfeits, and you suddenly realize that the scope of potential consequence is much wider than you were led to believe. Also I truly stan Utena repressing her fear of death so much that she forgets death exists.
