(Lady Diaene Celtigar on the left and Lady Floraen Celtigar on the right) (family tree & sketch below the cut)
Lady Diaene Celtigar:
Born the eldest child of House Celtigar, Diaene grows up expecting importance, only to learn her inheritance will pass to her younger brother
Rather than rebel openly, she becomes calculating and composed, deciding she will rise higher than Claw Isle through influence and marriage
She believes that she is destined for greater things than Claw Isle and that those of the old blood shouldn't be sidelined, as her family had slowly been. (I mean multiple hands of the king and masters of coin were Celtigars, so the precedent is there...)
Diaene is sharp-tongued, witty, and near errantly proud - a pride that makes her seem rather prickly and unapproachable to many.
She'd even earn a few nicknames in her time, more polite ones such as "The Golden Claw" for her striking aurealine eyes, or, more crassly, "The Bitch of Claw Isle" for her demanding and sometimes pompous demeanor.
At court, she carefully crafts an image: radiant, untouchable, and intimidating, ensuring she is admired but never easily approached. {She aids these efforts by only speaking in High Valyrian when possible, such as with her siblings or those who are privy}
Privately, she studies court politics, noble houses, and Targaryen lineage, treating marriage as a strategy rather than romance
At the Ashford Tourney, she arrives with a clear goal: secure a royal match
She sets her sights on Prince Valarr Targaryen, seeing him as the ideal balance of power, reputation, and refinement
Their interactions are poised and promising, but the revelation of his pre-existing betrothal ends her plans before they can begin
Diaene accepts this without drama, reiterating to herself that she is someone who loses nothing, even in disappointment
She next turns to Prince Aerion Targaryen, intrigued by his dangerous charisma and shared Valyrian pride
Their dynamic becomes a battle of egos, sharp, flirtatious, and volatile
Aerion is drawn to her strength, but expects submission; Diaene refuses to yield
Their connection collapses into tension, and she withdraws, choosing her dignity over danger, though the encounter leaves a mark
She dismisses Prince Daeron Targaryen outright at first, seeing him as beneath her ambitions due to his reputation
A chance encounter (sparked by her dearest cat Liore) forces conversation, and she finds herself disarmed by his humor and sincerity
Unlike others, Daeron does not try to impress or placate her, which unsettles and intrigues her
Over time, she begins to see beyond his reputation and the genuine person he is
Diaene finds herself lingering in his presence, despite knowing he does not fit her plans, and her carefully constructed ambition begins to crack under the weight of genuine feeling
She becomes increasingly frustrated, not with Daeron, but with herself for failing to control her own heart
{this goes on for a while}
On the sea walls of the Red Keep, her internal conflict erupts into anger -> She criticizes Daeron harshly {his drinking, his reputation, his lack of ambition} trying to force herself to reject him
Instead, the confrontation reveals the truth: she is drawn to his subtle kindness and emotional openness, traits she never valued before
In a moment of vulnerability, she confesses she does not want to love him, but does anyway
Daeron’s calm acceptance disarms her completely, revealing he understood her feelings all along
Overcome with emotion, she abandons composure and allows her heart to win over her ambitions, sealing it with an impulsive, passionate kiss
Diaene is no longer purely driven by ambition, but by a balance of power and genuine affection
She marries Daeron, achieving both her political goal {in marrying a prince} and an unexpected emotional fulfillment
She gains a reputation at court as a fierce and intimidating figure, only quelled by the seemingly oafish character of her husband, whom she dotes on most dearly despite her prickly and proud demeanor
As the Lady Wife (and now princess, woohoo!), she retains her pride and sharpness, but her life is no longer defined solely by status
She has two daughters, Vaera and Laeora Targaryen, and ensures their marriages strengthen ties back to House Celtigar
Her brother, Lord Aetor Celtigar, inherits Claw Isle and fathers twin sons, Aelyx and Eirys
Diaene arranges for her daughters to marry them, reuniting the Celtigar bloodline through her descendants
This lineage ultimately leads to Lady Floraen Celtigar, the lasting result of Diaene’s ambition and design
Lady Floraen Celtigar:
Born into House Celtigar, Floraen inherits the quiet pride and Valyrian legacy of her ancestors, marked by her citrine eyes {not seen in the family since her great-great-grandmother Diaene} and silver-blonde hair
Grows up fascinated by the histories and lost prominence of her house and the Targaryens, learning that subtlety and observation can be more powerful than open authority
Sharp-witted, proud, and socially adept, she embodies Diaene’s temperament but tempers it with patience and discretion.
Sent to Pentos as a minor Valyrian noblewoman to accompany, flatter, and report on the exiled Prince Viserys Targaryen, officially a loyalist, secretly a minor Crown asset
Observes Viserys, tracks his movements, and assesses his threat to the Iron Throne while maintaining the guise of political insignificance.
Slowly, she becomes personally invested in Viserys, recognizing his vulnerability beneath his pride and ambition, and begins to protect him against her own directives
Floraen realizes that she feels for the broken boy he was and wishes to help mend the man he'd become; in short, she'd fallen for him
She chooses her newfound loyalty and conscience over duty, abandoning her mission to stay by Viserys’s side as events in Essos unfold dangerously
{semi canon for the yumeship}
Before the moment that would seal Viserys’s fate, in Vaes Dothrak, she realizes the imminent threat and persuades him to leave (knocks him out) and flees the city and great grass sea to seek refuge in Lys
In Lys, far from both crown and khalasar, the two attempt to rebuild what was lost: Viserys chasing whispers of support among exiled bloodlines and forgotten claimants (allies with Blackfyre bastards or Aerion’s Lyseni descendants), Floraen at his side as confidante, advisor, and anchor to a dream that grows ever more fragile
This is a brief lil character exposé and there is more on these girlie pops than meets the eye! (ie. i have a google doc)
