[SWORD SHARPENING]
Long, careful strokes. Keep going, follow through. Good. Again. Mind your pressure. Try to take as much as you can at once without overexerting yourself—makes things easier in the long haul. This is no quick task, lad. We have to take our time with our weapons, show them love and care, and in turn they serve us better on the field.
You're working with the stone, not against it, remember. Hold your angle. Slow and steady. There. Well done. Try putting your back into it a little more. You'll find your stride. Lets start with a hundred passes, hm? [CHUCKLE] Yes, I am serious. You want your blade sharp, don't you? This is the real deal.
You've been counting your strokes, haven't you? [SIGH, SMILE] I told you to count. [PAUSE] Because it’s how you maintain an even blade. You were at twenty-nine. Keep going.
[SHARPENING STOPS, SWORD SET DOWN]
Oh, you think so, do you? Well, if you're so confident, let’s have a look then, shall we? Test the edge and we'll see if it's "good enough." Go on.
[SLICE]
And he passes his fingers over a freshly sharpened edge. I meant on your leather, lad. [CHUCKLING SIGH] You are hopeless. Come here, let me see.
[CLICKS TONGUE] An annoying cut, to be sure, but you want your enemies to bleed more than that. A hundred passes, minimum. You have to find some patience if you wanna be a knight, my boy. There is much drudgery to be had in our vocation—it can't always be vanquishing villains and valiant adventures. There is work to be done to keep the wheels turning. And you'll need to harden yourself—I shouldn't even be letting you stop for Such a little nick like that. [PAUSE] Oh, come here, you big baby.
[KISSING, LICKING]
What? A little spit lightens the bleeding. Its human instinct as old as time to put a wound in your mouth. Pass me one of them clean rags, will you?
Thanks.
[TEARING, BANDAGING]
You are going to make a fine knight. You just have to find that same courage you put into fighting, and apply it to the small things, too. I know you can do this, and I'm very proud of you.
[TYING OFF]
There. All better. Now, back to it, we haven't got all day. [PAUSE] What, what's wrong? Are you embarrassed? You needn't be, lad, wouldn't be the first time a trainee's cut themselves on their own blade and sure as hell won't be the last.
If not that, then what?
Oh. I see. Was it the sharpening or the wound that did it? Cause that's another thing plenty of knights have to learn to quell their appetites for if they wanna make it—you can't be going around trying to feed a carnal excitement for weapons or pain, that's a good way to get yourself killed.
What, me? What did I do?
[SCOFFING LAUGH] Hopeless, I say. Just from receiving instructions and having a wound tended? A little bit a praise? Just that got you so terribly bothered? Distraction's distraction, my boy. You cannot let yourself lose focus so easily, it’s dangerous.
[BREATH] Tell you what—here's your next lesson. It’s called delayed gratification. Channel all that flustered energy into your work but don't let it overtake you. A hundred passes, each side, and then I will tend to your… excitement. Mouths are good for things other than licking wounds. [LIGHT CHUCKLE] How's that sound?
Well go on then. [SWORD PICK UP] The blade's not gonna hone itself.
in training, your knight mentor gives you some hands-on lessons about pressure points and their uses in combat, which can be a bit flustering.
contains: novice knight/squire pov, knight x knight, masculine terms of address, older knight, simulated combat, panting, pain, wrestling/grappling, praise, sharing a drink, kissing (non-consenual, pov kisses kieran), touching, fluster and awkwardness. 8 minutes total.
it was a delight to play kieran again! tyvm for this request. I have another requested pov audio on deck featuring kieran in a much lewder circumstance :) stay tuned for that.
as per usual, you can find this audio at full quality on soundg-sm.
(transcript below)
I'll show you how, and then you're gonna do it, okay? Don't be nervous. You'll do great. Just pay attention, yeah?
Good. It's all about the back of the knee, right? This spot here. Feel that? ‘Tis a pressure point. It makes the leg fold on reflex. If you can get one of your opponent's legs folded, they're easy to knock off balance. They may even drop all the way just from having the knee taken out. Simple, but effective.
Take up stance. Feet apart, planted as steady as you can. Good. Try to resist me while I demonstrate, yeah? It's no help if you're anticipating it stock still. Alright.
[GRUNTING AS HE LUNGES AND KNOCKS POV'S KNEE]
[ARMOUR CLATTERS]
See? One quick strike took you right down, even when you knew it was coming. The body can't help it. It’s one of those, uh, Achilles’ heels. Y'alright? Here, give me your hand.
[HAULS POV UP]
Shake it off, lad. You took that one well. Okay. Now it's your turn. You're aiming right here. One quick horizontal or even diagonal strike will do. And, ehm, don't hold back with your force, okay? I can take it.
Alright. [SMILING] You ready? Gwan.
[SHIFTING, FOOTWORK, HUFFING]
Come on. Come on, try again.
[STRIKE, KIERAN COLLAPSES]
[PANTING] Ahh—very good, my boy. Well done. Very good form. All devils. That one's gonna bruise.
[CHUCKLE] Well it's a lot longer a trip for me down to the ground, ain't it?
Complaining? Whose complaining? [GETTING UP] I'm ready to go again when you are.
Yes, really. You need to practice. Once is not enough to learn a skill.
I'm gonna make it harder for you this time round. Do your best, and, uh, try not to let on where you're aiming til you've got a clear shot, yeah? I know I'm already wise to it, but it's harder to evade an attack if it comes by surprise.
Well c'mon, lad. I'm waitin’.
[GRUNTING, FOOTWORK]
Ah, see? Too high that time, got my thigh. That's no good. Try again.
[DODGING, PANTING, CHUCKLING]
Overcompenstated too much. If you fumble lower, you can try to recover with a step to the foot or a kick to the shin, but be careful, eh? Gets you within easy dagger range. Once more, come on. I know you can do it.
[HUFFING, FOOTWORK]
[STRIKE, COLLAPSE]
[WINCING] Ah, sonofabitch. Sorry to curse. That was very good. Well done with the feint. Clever. [BLOWS OUT BREATH] Yeah, yeah, I'm just fine, just taking a moment to admire the landscape. [LITTLE CHUCKLE] Why don't we both take a wee rest, ah?
[ARMOUR CLANKING, SITTING DOWN]
You're coming along well. [SHOULDER BUMP] Hey, none of that “good enough” stuff. Don't brush me off. I'm telling you you're doing well. You think I don't know a good knight from a poor one?
[SCOFFED LAUGH] Well, I'll just have to keep telling you until you believe it, then.
[WATER SKIN HANDED OVER]
Ah, thank you, I was about to ask, I'm parched.
[GULPING]
Here.
[WATER SKIN SLOSHES]
Other pressure points? Sure there are. Ehm, quite a few, in fact, some trickier than others. There's the feet, at the base of the toes—narrow, but effective if you can hit em—and there's two nerves that run down the legs, one, eh, one here on the outside, and one just here, on the inside, both of which cause a lot of pain when stuck hard enough.
[LEANING IN] There's here, at the back of the head, right at the base of the skull where it meets your spine. Feel that? It tingles sometimes when you press on it. And here, at the tail of your jaw where it meets your ear, right… there. That spot can be very tender.
What's wrong, lad? Y'alright? Did I hurt you?
[LEANING IN, SOFT KISSING]
[BREAK, HEAVY BREATHING]
Lad, I…
[MUMBLING] No, no, don't apologise, don’t… don't apologise… you just surprised me, is all.
[STUMBLING OVER HIS WORDS] Well, ehm, I think… I think that best be all for today. I'm sure you're, uh, tired, and… perhaps that's got you feeling… [CLEARS THROAT] Good work today. We'll pick up again tomorrow.
you're wounded when an ambush befalls you & your travelling party of fellow knights. sir kieran drags you away from the fray to tend to your injury (aka kieran talks you through it).
