Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Taken on 13/06/2020. The Certosa di Pavia is a monastery built by Gian Galeazzo Visconti as a family chapel — the same man who completed the Visconti Castle in Pavia and who was involved in the construction of the Duomo of Milan. Gian Galeazzo lay the first stone of the Certosa in 1396. As I tried to capture in this shot, the facade is decorated with a series of medallions with heads of ancient historical or legendary characters that form the base. Higher up are scenes from the life of Christ and the Old Testament as well as figures of Saints and Prophets. The interior of the church – which isn't allowed to be photographed – retains its original gothic structure, taking inspiration from the Cathedral in Milan. In addition, its three naves are covered with vaults decorated with starry skies and figures of saints and the Carthusians. There are also frescoes dedicated to the Sforza and Visconti families. It is a truly wonderful building that I couldn't have visited on a sunnier day. Guided tours of the cloisters and other parts of the monastery are available from the afternoon. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: The Certosa di Pavia is a 10-minute train ride from Pavia on the Pavia–Milano Bovisa Politecnico line with 'Trenord'. ______________________________________ #ig_pavia #certosadipavia #italianarchitecture #italia #italy #ilikeitaly #bestintravel #estateitaliana #lombardy #lombardia_super_pics #in_lombardia #igerslombardia #shotz_of_lombardia #lombardia_photogroup #trenord #finditliveit #igersitalia #yallerslombardia #yallersitalia #viaggiamoinitalia #treasureitaly #visitlombardia #discoveritaly #neverstopexploring #italy_illife #raw_italy #thehub_lombardia #greentravel #greentourism #travelblogger (at Certosa di Pavia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEJiL7OofBU/?igshid=1qt073230hzgv
