Cervical lacerations
Okay so I've been asking online on pregnancy and parenting forums, on birth communities, etc, but haven't gotten a satisfactory answer! So I'm throwing this up on my blog to see if somebody has an answer for me!
I tore my cervix when I gave birth a month ago, and I had to have a surgical repair. It hasn't caused me any problems with healing (in fact, I feel so much better than I expected to!), but I'm concerned about what this will mean for any subsequent pregnancies/births I may have.
There is surprisingly little information about cervical lacerations online, and very little mention of the cervix in any of my "What to Expect" books outside of dilation. So here's my list of questions - hopefully somebody can help me!
- Will I risk out of my midwife's care? (I know this is subjective and really depends on the practice, but I'm just asking in general). She's a CNM and is awesome and amazing and I really don't want to transfer care unless I decide to go out of hospital, which leads me to my next question.
- Will I still be able to have an out of hospital birth or will it be too risky? I know I lost approx. 1500 ccs of blood total, and I was taken to surgery quickly. I'm not sure I'd have enough time to transfer without needing a transfusion should this happen again.
- Will water birth still be an option? It's something I'm very interested in.
Please please share this, even if you don't know the answer!
