Disappointed in myself

Went to the ob er last night because I thought my water might be leaking. (better safe than sorry) and they did all the tests and everything is fine. But they checked my cervix... I shouldn't stood up for myself. But I didn't. I should've told them no. But I didn't. Why did I let them do that? My hr nurse told me not to let anyone check my cervix because I'm at risk for premature delivery and checking your cervix can make you go into labor. I mean I'm not worried as of now and I feel fine. But I'm so disappointed that I let it happen. Checking your cervix is so painful in the first place.

Stank up for yourself mama. How am I going to go through with the things I want for this birth if I can't tell them no to a cervix check?

Medicalese 101: Cervix check

Cervix check: in which a nurse, midwife, or physician inserts 2 fingers to measure the dilation, thickness, and station of a woman’s cervix to monitor the progress of labor.  Dilation is measured by the width the fingers are able to spread within the cervix. 

**Note: I HIGHLY discourage the "self cervix checks" that some women try to learn on the internet, especially in pregnancy. They do nothing more than increase anxiety about labor and delivery and make opportunity for infections. I'm all for women being empowered in their pregnancies, but I'm also all for them being safe.

Cervix checks done in the hospital are done by people who have done hundreds or thousands of them and know what they're feeling for.  If you don't know what you're feeling for, why do it? Also, say you are able to determine that you're 2 cm dilated. So what? You could be 2cm for the next week. It means nothing about how soon you will go into labor. And I guarantee you, if you're in active labor, you won't need to check your own cervix to be sure. 

By doing your own cervical check, you run the risk of breaking your water. Checks in the the hospital are done with STERILE gloves to avoid introducing bacteria into the uterus. Self cervix checks have the potential to cause infection in the baby and mom after delivery. Just don't do them.

Ffffffman. I really really wish that I could be induced.

My doctor says that he's not down because its my first pregnancy and there's no reason to be. DR. FOREST, MAYBE SO IM PREPARED FOR A DAY AND NOT SITTING ON A LIST OF MAYBES! I've got my hospital bag packed. And my cervix will be checked again on Monday. I cant wait to meet her! Holy shit! This is the moment I have been waiting for, counting down every single week for! My to do list: -I still need a stroller -My delivery room playlist isnt quite put together yet Ive got heartburn that makes my ears burn. I WILL NOT FUCKING MISS HEARTBURN. I will miss having her in my belly and how comforting her rolling around can be. I have so much to learn and teach.
