“that means a lot, thank you.” with marvin and henrik bc they need to be nice to each other >:((
the ceiling of marvin's room at first glance appeared to be white, but upon closer inspection it was more of a sickly grey. it wasn't smooth; there were small bumps all over it, and there was one big scratch near the edge of the wall. there were three small black marks where tacks had once been pressed, and there was a ripped piece of tape left over from a long ago birthday party. marvin had been looking at it for what felt hours. he could probably draw the ceiling from memory now.
there was a knock on the door. the off white door, the paint scratched to reveal the dark wood beneath in several places, a crack right in the center of the middle panel, a chunk of wood missing right next to the dull, copper coloured handle. yes, marvin had spent maybe a bit too much time in this room, hadn't he.
"hey, marvin," came henrik's voice, and marvin groaned. maybe there was still time to pretend to be asleep. "i hope you're decent. i'm coming in."
marvin closed his eyes and stayed very still as the door creaked open and henrik stepped into the room, closing it behind him. marvin evened his breathing, trying not to react as henrik's footsteps made their way over to his bed. a pause, in which marvin's heart raced, and then something was placed on his bedside table. another moment of silence. and then the footsteps started again, heading towards the door, and it opened and shut again.
for a moment marvin didn't move, not wanting to reveal himself in case henrik was still in the room. but when he opened his eyes and glanced over inconspicuously, the room was empty. he was both disappointed and relieved.
he slowly sat up, wincing at the pain in his neck from staring straight up for so long. the room was dim with the evening, so he switched his bedside light on, head pounding from the movement, and saw what henrik had brought; a plate with a cheese and bacon sandwich, his favourite, and a bottle of water. marvin's heart swelled, and he nearly burst into tears right there. don't do that. you're just going to feel worse.
"you're welcome." came a voice from outside, and marvin jumped, nearly dropping the sandwich half he'd just picked up.
he hesitated, before swallowing his pride and saying "why'd you… bring me food?"
he heard henrik laugh. "marvin, you have only left your room once today to use the bathroom. jackie's out and i figured you needed a prompt to eat."
marvin blinked away the tears. "that- that means a lot. thank you."
a moment passed. "you're welcome, bruder."
the footsteps went back down the stairs, leaving marvin in shock.
brother. he'd called him brother. he'd never called him brother before.
marvin quickly wiped away the tears that were threatening to fall and laughed to himself, grinning like an idiot. he'd called him brother!
he ran his fingers through his newly short hair, sniffling as he bit into the sandwich. it was still warm. it was good.
he'd have to hug henrik for this later.
